In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media?
The media products we have produced are similar to ones in the market in a number of ways, in terms of codes and conventions. An example of how they do this is through the characters they both use. The Grudge uses a past victim to become the antagonist and focuses on revenge as the main theme of the film. This is followed by our film trailer as it uses an antagonist, who was a past victim, in order to achieve revenge.
Another way in which codes and conventions of are film trailer relate to those in the market is through mise en scene setting and location. The abandoned house is a setting used by many horror films such as the grudge. It denotes a sense of horror and promotes an atmosphere, which is tense, and foreboding, which is a familiar code, and convention used in numerous horror films. This is because a tense and foreboding atmosphere followed by a denotation of horror heightens audience anticipation.

An example of this is the fact that the trailer is not consistent or in chronological order with the story line which relates to many trailers which are not in chronological order such as saw or the Grudge.
‘The abandoned’ trailer challenges conventional horror films through using the antagonist as a small girl instead of using something more traditional e.g. a monster. Other ways in which our trailer doesn’t follow codes and conventions of products in the market is through using no blood/gore violence which is something used in many horror products in the market.
The film poster follows many codes and conventions of many other posters who have been successful in advertising their film. One of the main codes and conventions it follows is through the way that it uses the main antagonist as the main vocal points of the poster in order to attract its target audience. This allows for the heightening of audience anticipation which leads to people wanting to go and see the film.
The magazine also follows codes and conventions in that it uses one to three fonts on its cover it order for it to develop a brand name/identity. Furthermore it is dominated by the masthead which is followed by its image which would become the main point of that particular magazine. In this the magazine is dominated by the film ‘ the Abandoned’.
Overall are trailer, products develop codes and conventions in using revenge as the main theme of  the trailer.
