RELATIONSHIP
http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/relationship?s=t defined relationship as
"a connection, association, or involvement." In this study, I would love to show the relationship of Christ
to the church, the Lord's suffer to the Lord's Supper and the Blood of Christ to the Baptism.
1. Christ and Church Relationship
It's been cultivated in the mind of many people especially to those who are in denominations that the
church is not important. Christ promised to build His church in Matt. 16:18 "And I also say to you that
you are Peter, and on this rock I will build My church, and the gates of Hades shall not prevail against
it." And this was built in Acts 2, on 33 A.D, where we could read those who are saved added to the
church "praising God and having favor with all the people. And the Lord added to the church[a] daily
those who were being saved." Christ is the Head of this church and the Church is His body, Apostle Paul
said that in Col. 1:18 "And He is the head of the body, the church, who is the beginning, the firstborn
from the dead, that in all things He may have the preeminence." We all know that our human heads are
connected to our human bodies, thus Christ is also connected to the church.
Christ and Church relationship is also liken by Apostle Paul to husband and wife relationship:
Ephesians 5
New King James Version (NKJV)
22 Wives, submit to your own husbands, as to the Lord.
23 For the husband is head of the wife, as also Christ is head of the church; and He is the
Savior of the body.
24 Therefore, just as the church is subject to Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands
in everything.
25 Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself for her,
26 that He might sanctify and cleanse her with the washing of water by the word,
27 that He might present her to Himself a glorious church, not having spot or wrinkle or any such
thing, but that she should be holy and without blemish.
28 So husbands ought to love their own wives as their own bodies; he who loves his wife loves himself.
29 For no one ever hated his own flesh, but nourishes and cherishes it, just as the Lord does the
church. 30 For we are members of His body,[d] of His flesh and of His bones.
2. 2
31 “For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall
become one flesh.”[e]
32 This is a great mystery, but I speak concerning Christ and the church.
33 Nevertheless let each one of you in particular so love his own wife as himself, and let the wife see that
she respects her husband.
2. Lord's Suffer and Lord's Supper Relationship
The Lord's supper was instituted in connection with the Lord’s suffer, the basis of eating the bread is it
symbol the body of Christ “Take, eat;[a] this is My body which is broken[b] for you; do this in
remembrance of Me.” (1 Cor. 11:24) and also the fruit of the vine symbol the blood of Christ “This cup is
the new covenant in My blood. This do, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of Me.” Verse 25.
When we partake this upon the first day of the week (Acts 20:7), we keep proclaiming “…the Lord’s
death till He comes.” 1 Cor. 11:26. It is very ashamed on the part of those who say that they remember
the suffering of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ yet neglecting to partake the supper He want us to
engage in.
3. Blood of Christ and Baptism
So many think that baptism is not important, they argue that “it is the blood of Christ that saves us not
baptism”. But wait… it is very true that we are save by the blood of Christ and this baptism is the means
to have contact in this blood of Christ. Have we not read what is written in Romans 6:3-6 by the Apostle
Paul?
Romans 6:3-6
New King James Version (NKJV)
3 Or do you not know that as many of us as were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into His
death? 4 Therefore we were buried with Him through baptism into death, that just as Christ was
raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of
life.
5 For if we have been united together in the likeness of His death, certainly we also shall be in
the likeness of His resurrection, 6 knowing this, that our old man was crucified with Him, that
the body of sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves of sin.
Not just this Apostle Paul but as well as Peter said “There is also an antitype which now saves us—
baptism(not the removal of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God),
through the resurrection of Jesus Christ,” 1 Pet. 3:21.
3. 3
Because they knew that our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ Himself said and recorded by Mark “He who
believes and is baptized will be saved; but he who does not believe will be condemned.” Mark 16:16.
Even Philip baptized the Samarians as well as Simons when they believed (read Acts 8:5-12).
Conclusion : And now why do you tarry? arise, and be baptized, and wash away your sins,
calling on the name of the Lord. (Acts 22:16). Let us have now fellowship, relationship with
the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit through submitting in water baptism.
Matthew 28:18-20
King James Version (KJV)
18 And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth.
19 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the
Son, and of the Holy Ghost:
20 Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you
always, even unto the end of the world. Amen.
