Instead, activity spreads from the
back of the brain, along the bottom
surface, and into the whole middle area.
As we’ve seen, the middle area is
responsible for speech.

So what we are seeing here is a written word triggering speech. This
happens whether you actually speak the word out loud or not. The
same circuit is involved in articulating a word or just recognizing it.
