Hematology : • From the Greek, haima-blood and logos discourse Hematology is the study of the blood and its main constituents: plasma and cells • Blood accounts for 7-8% of total body weight in an average 70kg adult • Total volume of blood is about 5-6L • The plasma is the fluid portion of the blood: 90% water and 10% proteins: Albumin,Globulins, and Fibrinogen • The formed elements are: the red blood cells, the white blood cells and the platelets.
