It notes there are four main types of funding: direct sales, charities/private institutes, sponsorships, and salaries. Public funding comes from the government through programs like the World Class Programme. Private funding includes company sponsorships and endorsements. The document also reviews funding amounts for the 2012 London Olympics, noting the average cost per medal and total amounts from UK Sport and private sponsors. It concludes by discussing private sector sports academies and requirements for preparing elite global athletes.

5. SUMMARY
Britain's athletes at the Olympics did not just exceed expectations, they
smashed them, winning 65 medals - 29 of them golds.
That is the best tally of medals recorded by Britain at any Olympics since 1908 and 18 more than won in Beijing four years ago.
It was also the Games when British women came to the fore - with first ever
British golds in rowing, stunning performances in cycling, Jessica Ennis in the
stadium, and several riders in the equestrian events. Not to mention Nicola
Adams winning the very first women's boxing gold. Thus supporting the fact that
the 4 types of funding provided since 2008 Olympics proved to be a large deal
in success. The funding's help support and create private sector academies and
help in preparation for elite athletes.
