At the end of the lesson students are
expected to:
a. Define cellular respiration process
b. Explain the major stages of cellular
respiration
c. Describe how organism obtain and
utilize energy
d. Appreciate the significance of cellular
respiration as complement to
photosynthesis process
What is cellular respiration?
• Is the process by which the cell or
organism utilizes chemical energy from
nutrients (biomolecules) to produce
Adenosine Triphosphate (ATP).
Adenosine Triphosphate (ATP)
• Is referred to as the energy currency of
the cell.
• The cells use ATP for various energy-
requiring processes such as digestion,
respiration, transport of food molecules
and cell division.
Let us spy the
process!
MR. BANDI, CAN YOU

EQUATION OF THE
CELLULAR RESPIRATION ?
MR. FELISAN, DO YOU

Cellular Respiration Overview
Three Stages:
1. Glycolysis
2. Krebs Cycle
3. Electron Transport Chain
 The main form of Energy
produced =
ATP
Cellular Respiration Overview
Glycolysis
Glyco = glucose lysis = breakdown
• Occurs in the cytoplasm of the cell
• Molecules of GLUCOSE are broken down into 2
molecules of Pyruvic Acid.
• Cell must use (invest) 2 ATP
• Products:
--- 2 pyruvic acid
--- 2 ATP
--- 2 NADH
Site of cell respiration
• The mitochondria is the organelle
where the final stages of cellular
respiration occurs.

II. Choose form the words inside the box the correct answer that will
complete each sentence below.
ATP glycolysis
Pyruvic acid oxygen
Fermentation NAD+
1. In the electron transport chain, the final acceptor of electrons is _____, thereby
producing water.
2. If two molecules of glucose undergo the process of glycolysis, four molecules of
____ will be produced.
3. Yeast cells can undergo the process of glycolysis without the presence of oxygen
through a process called ________.
4. The process of glycolysis may continue only if a constant supply of an electron
carrier called ____ is present in the cell.
5. The energy produced during the process of respiration is stored in the
bonds of _____ which is an unstable molecule.
