2. As a Hypnotherapist
and NLP practitioner,
I take a relatively
simple approach to
Depression.

3. While each individuals depression is
unique, the common element I find with
depressed people, is that they find
themselves rendered virtually
incapable of imagining a future that is
attractive, compelling or worthwhile to
them personally.

4. In other words, they believe they have
nothing worthwhile to look forward to.

5. When they cast their mental gaze and
imagination in the direction of the
future,

6. they are convinced that all that awaits
them is more boredom, hurt, let down,
futility and disappointment.

7. Nothing to look forward to.

8. Let me tell you, when you believe, and
in fact are convinced, that there is
nothing to look forward to, THAT’S
DEPRESSING !

9. In fact, it’s enough to depress anyone,
and I mean anyone!

11. Usually, people that find themselves in
this predicament, have experienced a
series of hurts, disapointments and
let downs that have hurt them to the
point where they feel downright angry.

12. In the abscence of knowing how to
release this anger in harmless, non
violent ways, most people then attempt
to “disconnect themselves from
their feelings of hurt,
dissapointment, resentment and
anger which feel almost to painful or
overwhelming to deal with.

14. In the process of disconnecting from
these overwhelming feelings the
person then literally disconnects from
all their emotions including their
capacity to experience happiness and
joy.

15. At this stage friends and relatives may
comment or observe that they seem to
have lost their smile.

16. So, in other words, the depressed
person, has in effect, attempted to
protect themselves from feelings that
feel overwhelming and negative, and in
the process, disconnected themselves
from their true feelings to the point,

17. where their ability to feel and
experience all emotions including
positive ones is largely negated, along
with their ability and capacity to
imagine a compelling and worthwhile
future.

18. Hence, Depression.

19. My job, as a Hypnotherapist, is then to
help my client identify, reconnect to,
and safely release the overwhelming
feelings from the past, and to transform
and reframe the limiting decisions and
judgements that came with them.
