Mind and Body:
The Exercise Connection 1
positivetranceformations.com.au
We all know that mind and body are
linked – this is one of the reasons why
people come to find help for problems
like weight loss and quitting smoking
           from hypnotherapy.
What happens in our minds affects our
bodies and the reverse is also true:
what happens to our bodies affects our
               minds.
Now, professional clinical
  hypnotist Brisbane know that what
goes on in a client’s mind affects what
      goes on in their bodies.
Several of the tests used to gauge how
receptive a client is to a hypnotic
suggestion involves seeing if the client
can block out receiving strong smells
while in a trance in response to a
suggestion, or if they become unable to
move a limb in response to a
               suggestion.
However, as people often forget what
has happened to them and what they
  have experienced during a hypnotic
trance, here’s another way of showing
you that what you think and imagine
         can affect your body.
Read the paragraph below very slowly
and carefully, letting your imagination
      play with all the details.
You are walking through a hot desert.
Overhead, the sun is beating down on
       the back of your head.
Heat waves shimmer off the sand
around you and you screw up your
     eyes against the glare.
Sweat trickling and itching on your
forehead and making the back of your
       shirt sticky and damp.
The inside of your mouth is dry and
tacky, and you’re so thirsty that the
back of your throat feels like paper.
Each step you take makes your
muscles ache, because your legs are
feeling so heavy and you need a drink
              so badly.
Then you see a lemon lying in front of
you. You pick it up, feeling the dimples
       in the soft, waxy skin.
Then you lift it to your nose and smell
the bittersweet tang of the peel.
Then you bite into the lemon, and the
sour juice explodes into your mouth,
washing around your palate and your
  tongue with the refreshing taste.
Some of the juice runs down your
hands and arm, and you lick the juice
off, tasting the salt of your sweat and
the tang of the lemon at the same time.
Did you feel your mouth watering when
you read or heard the bit about biting
into the lemon and tasting the juice?
I certainly did while I was writing it.
Right now, you might even like to leave
this page of your browser open and go
and get a drink, as a lot of people feel
  thirsty after trying this visualisation
                 exercise.
Doesn’t that show you that what you
imagine and think about can affect your
                 body?
But what about the other way?
