1. I KNOW
We need light to see
The sun is a natural source of light
The moon does not have its own light. It appears bright because light
from the sun falls on it.

SHADOW
2. WHY DO WE NEED LIGHT ?
We need light for our eyes to see things. At night we
cannot see things in a room unless we switch on the light.
We see an object only when light that falls on it bounces
back and enters our eye.
Example;
3. THE MOON
The moon is the brightest object in the night
sky, but it does not have light of its own. The
moon appears bright because light from the sun
falls on it. The moon is the Earths natural
satellite. It revolves around the earth as well as
rotates on its axis.
Example;
4. FORMATION OF SHADOW
An object which does not let light pass through is called an o[aque
object. We cannot see through an opaque object. Wood, stone and
metals are opaque materials.
When an opaque object comes in the path of light, light cannot
travel further, it gets stopped. When light is stopped in its path by
an object, a dark area is formed on a surface behind the object.
This dark area is called shadow.
