An intelligent working dog known for its herding and guarding capabilities, Australian Shepherds, or Aussies, have been recognized by the American Kennel Club since 1991. While its place of origin remains unknown, evidence suggests that the breed emerged in the Pyrenees Mountains between Spain and France, and that the name can be attributed to the dogs’ popularity among Australians who immigrated to America in the 1800s.
