  45. 45. a) Background Reason For Narrating the Parable ● In order to highlight the hollowness of bad morals and bad characters of the leadership of Quraysh mentioned in earlier verses. ● A parable (story of the owners of the garden) is recounted to them. ● In it they are shown that their power and wealth, which has made them so arrogant and haughty that they are making fun of the prophet and the Quran has no basis. ● In this parable, it is shown that: ● Allah (s.w.t) destroyed the garden of its owners for not being grateful to Allah’s mercy and favour, and for not giving the rights of poors and destitutes. (Section-3) The parable of the owners of the Garden:
  46. 46. ● The disbelievers of makkah are being reminded the mercy and favor of Allah of (sending of the prophet(s.a.w) and the Quran to them). ● since they denied, rejected. therefore They should be ready for the punishment for their hostile attitudes and behaviours. (Section-3) The parable of the owners of the Garden:
  47. 47. b) Relevance of the Parable: ● The prophet companions were weak and poor and the leaders of the Quraysh were blessed with wealth, power and authority, they had persecuted and deprived the Prophet(s.a.w) and his companions(r.t.a). ● It was a test for the leaders of Quraysh that how do they deal with Allah and his servants. ● This is the relevance between the story of the owners of garden and the Prophet(s.a.w). (Section-3) The parable of the owners of the Garden:
  48. 48. c) Swearing to pluck the fruit without glorifying Allah. َْ‫ذ‬ِ‫إ‬‫وا‬ُ‫م‬َ‫س‬ْ‫ق‬َ‫أ‬‫ا‬َ‫ه‬َّ‫ن‬ُ‫م‬ ِ‫ْر‬‫ص‬َ‫ي‬َ‫ل‬ََ‫ين‬ ِ‫ح‬ِ‫ب‬ْ‫ص‬ُ‫م‬ 68:17)when they swore that they would pluck its fruit the next morning. ََ‫ل‬َ‫و‬ََ‫ون‬ُ‫ن‬ْ‫ث‬َ‫ت‬ْ‫س‬َ‫ي‬ 68:18)without adding any reservation ( such as God willing). ‫ا‬َ‫ن‬ ْ‫و‬َ‫ل‬َ‫ب‬ We tried ‫ا‬َ‫م‬َ‫ك‬ As ‫و‬ُ‫م‬َ‫س‬ْ‫ق‬َ‫أ‬ they swore َِ‫ْر‬‫ص‬َ‫ي‬َ‫ل‬ to pluck ََ‫ين‬ ِ‫ح‬ِ‫ب‬ْ‫ص‬ُ‫م‬ (in the) morning (M-3) The parable of the owners of the Garden: (Section-3) The parable of the owners of the Garden:
  49. 49. ● When they swore they would surely pluck the fruits of their orchard in the morning. ● This refers to the confidence, which the owners of the garden had in their success. ● They were satisfied that their orchard had survived the various phases of weather and cultivation and had become secured from all calamities. Now only thing left is go and harvest its fruits. (Section-3) The parable of the owners of the Garden:
  50. 50. d) Calamity Fall At Night: ََ‫اف‬َ‫ط‬َ‫ف‬‫ا‬َ‫ه‬ْ‫ي‬َ‫ل‬َ‫ع‬َ‫ف‬ِ‫ئ‬‫ا‬َ‫ط‬َْ‫ن‬ِ‫م‬ََ‫ك‬ِ‫ب‬َ‫ر‬َْ‫م‬ُ‫ه‬َ‫و‬‫ون‬ُ‫م‬ِ‫ئ‬‫ا‬َ‫ن‬ 68:19) So a calamity from your Rabb came down upon it while they slept. َْ‫ت‬َ‫ح‬َ‫ب‬ْ‫ص‬َ‫أ‬َ‫ف‬َِ‫يم‬ ِ‫ر‬َّ‫ص‬‫َال‬‫ك‬ 68:20) and by the morning it lay as if it had been already harvested. ََ‫اف‬َ‫ط‬َ‫ف‬ So there came ‫ون‬ُ‫م‬ِ‫ئ‬‫ا‬َ‫ن‬ were asleep ‫ا‬َ‫ه‬ْ‫ي‬َ‫ل‬َ‫ع‬ upon it َْ‫ت‬َ‫ح‬َ‫ب‬ْ‫ص‬‫ا‬ So it became َِ‫يم‬ ِ‫ر‬َّ‫ص‬‫َال‬‫ك‬ as if reaped (Section-3) The parable of the owners of the Garden:
  51. 51. ●The devastating calamity took over the entire garden while its owners were at sleep. ●The word ( ِِ‫يم‬ ِ‫ر‬َّ‫ص‬) means the orchard became burnt and black like night. Like the crop when it is harvested ( cut & dried). (Section-3) The parable of the owners of the Garden:
  52. 52. e) The Scenes Of Their Proceeding To Pluck The Fruits. ‫ا‬ ْ‫َو‬ِ‫ا‬َ‫ن‬َ‫ت‬َ‫ف‬ََ‫ين‬ ِ‫ح‬ِ‫ب‬ْ‫ص‬ُ‫م‬ 68:21) At daybreak they called out to one another. َِ‫ن‬َ‫أ‬‫ُوا‬ِْ‫غ‬‫ا‬َ‫ى‬َ‫ل‬َ‫ع‬َْ‫م‬ُ‫ك‬ِ‫ث‬ْ‫ر‬َ‫ح‬َْ‫ن‬ِ‫إ‬َْ‫م‬ُ‫ت‬ْ‫ن‬ُ‫ك‬ََ‫ين‬ِ‫م‬ ِ‫ار‬َ‫ص‬ 68:22) saying: "Go out early to your crop, if you want to pick its fruit." ‫وا‬ُ‫ق‬َ‫ل‬َ‫ط‬ْ‫ن‬‫ا‬َ‫ف‬َْ‫م‬ُ‫ه‬َ‫و‬ََ‫ون‬ُ‫ت‬َ‫ف‬‫ا‬َ‫خ‬َ‫ت‬َ‫ي‬ 68:23) So they went, whispering to one another: (Section-3) The parable of the owners of the Garden:
  53. 53. َْ‫ن‬َ‫أ‬ََ‫ل‬‫ا‬َ‫ه‬َّ‫ن‬َ‫ل‬ُ‫خ‬َِْ‫ي‬ََ‫م‬ ْ‫و‬َ‫ي‬ْ‫ل‬‫ا‬َْ‫م‬ُ‫ك‬ْ‫ي‬َ‫ل‬َ‫ع‬َ‫ين‬ِ‫ك‬ْ‫س‬ِ‫م‬ 68:24) "Let no needy person enter upon you in the garden today." ‫ا‬ ْ‫َو‬َِ‫غ‬َ‫و‬َ‫ى‬َ‫ل‬َ‫ع‬َِْ‫ر‬َ‫ح‬ََ‫ين‬ ِ‫ِر‬ِ‫ا‬َ‫ق‬ 68:25) Thus they went out, fixed in their stingy resolve (not to give any fruit to the poor people, as if they had the full control over harvesting the fruit). ● Allah(s.w.t) the knower of secret and private counsel narrates the scenes and their reactions. (Section-3) The parable of the owners of the Garden:
  54. 54. f) Proceeding to orchard: ‫ا‬ ْ‫َو‬ِ‫ا‬َ‫ن‬َ‫ت‬َ‫ف‬ََ‫ين‬ ِ‫ح‬ِ‫ب‬ْ‫ص‬ُ‫م‬ 68:21) At daybreak they called out to one another. ● They called out each other early morning so that they could go- together to the orchard. (Section-3) The parable of the owners of the Garden:
  55. 55. َِ‫ن‬َ‫أ‬‫ُوا‬ِْ‫غ‬‫ا‬َ‫ى‬َ‫ل‬َ‫ع‬َْ‫م‬ُ‫ك‬ِ‫ث‬ْ‫ر‬َ‫ح‬َْ‫ن‬ِ‫إ‬َْ‫م‬ُ‫ت‬ْ‫ن‬ُ‫ك‬ََ‫ين‬ِ‫م‬ ِ‫ار‬َ‫ص‬ 68:22) saying: "Go out early to your crop, if you want to pick its fruit." ● one of the brothers said to other “Go early to orchard, if you want to pluck all the fruits and not to be seen by the destitutes and needy ”. ‫وا‬ُ‫ق‬َ‫ل‬َ‫ط‬ْ‫ن‬‫ا‬َ‫ف‬َْ‫م‬ُ‫ه‬َ‫و‬ََ‫ون‬ُ‫ت‬َ‫ف‬‫ا‬َ‫خ‬َ‫ت‬َ‫ي‬ 68:23) So they went, whispering to one another: ‫ُو‬ِْ‫غ‬‫ا‬ Go early ََ‫ين‬ِ‫م‬ ِ‫ار‬َ‫ص‬ Pluck the fruit ‫و‬ُ‫ق‬َ‫ل‬َ‫ط‬ْ‫ن‬‫ا‬َ‫ف‬ So they went ََ‫ون‬ُ‫ت‬َ‫ف‬‫ا‬َ‫خ‬َ‫ت‬َ‫ي‬ lowered (their) voices (Section-3) The parable of the owners of the Garden:
  56. 56. g) Exercising their power to deprive the poor: َْ‫ن‬َ‫أ‬ََ‫ل‬‫ا‬َ‫ه‬َّ‫ن‬َ‫ل‬ُ‫خ‬َِْ‫ي‬ََ‫م‬ ْ‫و‬َ‫ي‬ْ‫ل‬‫ا‬َْ‫م‬ُ‫ك‬ْ‫ي‬َ‫ل‬َ‫ع‬َ‫ين‬ِ‫ك‬ْ‫س‬ِ‫م‬ 68:24) "Let no needy person enter upon you in the garden today.“ ● One of them said to other, don’t let any destitute and needy person enter into the garden today. (Section-3) The parable of the owners of the Garden:
  57. 57. ‫ا‬ ْ‫َو‬َِ‫غ‬َ‫و‬َ‫ى‬َ‫ل‬َ‫ع‬َِْ‫ر‬َ‫ح‬ََ‫ين‬ ِ‫ِر‬ِ‫ا‬َ‫ق‬ 68:25) Thus they went out, fixed in their stingy resolve (not to give any fruit to the poor people, as if they had the full control over harvesting the fruit). ● They went in the morning with strength and power to pluck the fruits and to prevent the poor from having share in the harvest. ● They thought they had power do what they had planned. َْ‫َو‬َِ‫غ‬َ‫و‬ And they went early َ‫ى‬َ‫ل‬َ‫ع‬ With َِْ‫ر‬َ‫ح‬ Determination ََ‫ين‬ ِ‫ِر‬ِ‫ا‬َ‫ق‬ Able (Section-3) The parable of the owners of the Garden:
  58. 58. ● Since in this parable the character of the leader of Quraysh has been highlighted by calling them. (Hinder of good ): ‫مناع‬‫للخير‬ (Transgressor): ِ‫معت‬ (cruel): ‫عتل‬ (Usurper of right): ‫اثيم‬ ● The stingy resolve and being hard (cruel), not giving the rights of poor are mentioned here so that similarity between the characters and conducts of the owners of garden and the leaders of the quraysh is highlighted. (Section-3) The parable of the owners of the Garden:
  59. 59. h) Reaction After Seeing The Destruction: ‫ا‬َّ‫م‬َ‫ل‬َ‫ف‬‫ا‬َ‫ه‬ ْ‫و‬َ‫أ‬َ‫ر‬‫وا‬ُ‫ل‬‫ا‬َ‫ق‬‫ا‬َّ‫ن‬ِ‫إ‬ََ‫ون‬ُّ‫ل‬‫ا‬َ‫ض‬َ‫ل‬ 68:26)But when they saw the garden, they cried: "Surely we must have lost our way! َْ‫ل‬َ‫ب‬َُ‫ن‬ْ‫ح‬َ‫ن‬ََ‫ون‬ُ‫م‬‫و‬ُ‫ر‬ْ‫ح‬َ‫م‬ 27:68)Nay, we have become destitute." ‫ا‬َ‫ه‬ ْ‫و‬َ‫أ‬َ‫ر‬ They saw ََ‫ون‬ُّ‫ل‬‫ا‬َ‫ض‬َ‫ل‬ Are lost َُ‫ن‬ْ‫ح‬َ‫ن‬ We ََ‫ون‬ُ‫م‬‫و‬ُ‫ر‬ْ‫ح‬َ‫م‬ Are deprived (Section-3) The parable of the owners of the Garden:
  60. 60. ● When they saw it [the place of ruined garden],They couldn’t recognize and they cried out, we have lost our way. Then they changed their mind and realized that it was the right place, then they said. ● Indeed we are ruined and deprived of the harvest and we have no portion and no share of the fruit. (Section-3) The parable of the owners of the Garden:
  61. 61. i) Not being grateful for the blessing: َْ‫م‬َ‫ل‬َ‫أ‬َْ‫ل‬ُ‫ق‬َ‫أ‬َْ‫م‬ُ‫ك‬َ‫ل‬ََ‫ل‬ ْ‫و‬َ‫ل‬‫ون‬ُ‫ح‬ِ‫ب‬َ‫س‬ُ‫ت‬ََ‫ل‬‫ا‬َ‫ق‬َْ‫م‬ُ‫ه‬ُ‫ط‬َ‫س‬ ْ‫و‬َ‫أ‬ 68:28) The most upright among them said: "Did I not tell you to glorify Allah? Surely we were unjust,“ • They confessed their guilt. They cried out. “ Glory be to our Lord! Certainly we were sinners. • They realized that they became arrogant and cruel, due to their wealth and success. • This is similar to Younus(a.s) when he cried out to Allah. ‫ل‬‫ال‬‫انت‬‫سبحانك‬‫انى‬‫كنت‬‫من‬‫الظالمين‬ (Section-3) The parable of the owners of the Garden:

  74. 74. a) Background: • The Chief of Quraysh who argued with believers that the blessings and favours that we are enjoying in the world are a sure sign that we are favorite of Allah(swt) and the miserable lives that you are living are proof that you are under the wrath of Allah. • Therefore if there was any life after death as you say (which we don’t believe in it). We would be blessed with even better or more(means paradise and its blessing in the hereafter) than this world. • These verses respond to their false claim and ask them what had led them to arrive at such a misunderstanding . (Section-4) Allah’s Law of reward and Punishment
  75. 75. s) Reward for the Believers: ََّ‫ن‬ِ‫إ‬ََ‫ين‬ِ‫ق‬َّ‫ت‬ُ‫م‬ْ‫ل‬ِ‫ل‬ََِْ‫ن‬ِ‫ع‬َْ‫م‬ِ‫ه‬ِ‫ب‬َ‫ر‬َِ‫ت‬‫ا‬َّ‫ن‬َ‫ج‬َِ‫يم‬ِ‫ع‬َّ‫ن‬‫ال‬ 68:34)Surely the righteous will be rewarded with gardens of delight by their Rabb. ● The disbelievers are admonished that well being in the hereafter belongs to those who are God-fearing. ● It is against the God requisite of justice and mercy that in the hereafter, the righteous should meet the same fate as the guilty. ● The righteous peoples are those who are fearful of Allah(swt), the day of judgment and its accountability. ● They will be rewarded garden of bliss from their Lord. (Section-4) Allah’s Law of reward and Punishment
  76. 76. ● The implication of the these questions in the forthcoming verses is that these desires, which the disbelievers nurture in their hearts(that they would be blessed with paradise and its blessing in the hereafter) have no basis in sense and reason and they have no evidence to substantiate their false claim and misconception. a) No book sent by Allah b) No promise made by Allah. c) No guarantor, who will secure them paradise. d) No help from their false gods. 78. 78. ● The amazement is expressed on the audacity and the attitude of the arrogant disbelievers,Who regard the creator to be devoid of the attributes of justice and mercy, who don’t care people are the righteous or the wrongdoer. ● What a great allegation they make on the creator, whose providence, power, signs and wisdom is witnessed by every object of this universe.
