Al-Waqiah.

The Virtue of Surah Al-Waqia
Abu Ishaq reported from Ikrimah from Ibn Abbas that Abu Bakr(rta)
said:
“ Allah’s messenger: you are becoming gray”
The messenger (saw) replied:
The following surahs made me gray:
• Hud(Surah 11)
• Al-Waqiah(Surah 56)
• Al-Mursalat(Surah 77)
• An-Naba (Surah 78)
• Al-Takwir (Surah 81)
Hadith recorded in At-Tirmidhi and is Saheeh. (3297)

About the Surah
Al-Waqiah.

The prophet(saw) said:
“Whoever reads one letter from the book of Allah will earn one good
deed (hasanah).
One good deed is equal to ten good deeds.
I don’t say that Alif-laam-Meem is a letter but Alif is a letter, Lam is a
letter and Meem is a letter.
Hadith recorded in At-Tirmidhi classed as Saheeh(2910).

• Ibn Abbas (rta) gave the following chronological order of surahs:
a) First Surah Taha was sent down.
b) Then Surah Al-Waqiah.

The scenes from the day
of Judgement
Verses (1-10) describe the
conditions of earth,
mountain and human beings
on the day of judgement.

ِ‫إ‬‫ا‬َ‫ذ‬ِِ‫ت‬َ‫ع‬َ‫ق‬َ‫و‬ِ‫ة‬َ‫ع‬ِ‫ق‬‫ا‬َ‫و‬ْ‫ل‬‫ا‬
56:1)When the inevitable event will come to pass.
• Al-Waqiah is one of the names of the day of judgement.
• The deniers of the day of judgement are warned that the
day of judgement is certain to come. They will inevitably face
it.
• There is no doubt in its occurrence, It is a real and certain
event.

َِ‫س‬ْ‫ي‬َ‫ل‬‫ا‬َ‫ه‬ِ‫ت‬َ‫ع‬ْ‫ق‬َ‫و‬ِ‫ل‬‫ة‬َ‫ب‬ِ‫ذ‬‫َا‬‫ك‬
56:2) no one will be able to deny its coming to pass.
• No one can deny the occurrence of this event and it will
surely come to pass.
• There will be none to deny it’s happening.
• Nor will anyone have the power to avert it.

Similarly in the other surah of the Quran, Allah describes the
Day of Judgement
Allah says about the day of judgement
َِ‫ل‬َ‫أ‬َ‫س‬ِ‫ل‬ِ‫ئ‬‫ا‬َ‫س‬ِ‫اب‬َ‫ذ‬َ‫ع‬ِ‫ب‬ِ‫ع‬ِ‫ق‬‫ا‬َ‫و‬
70:1)A questioner asked you about the punishment which is
bound to happen.
َِ‫ين‬ ِ‫ر‬ِ‫ف‬‫َا‬‫ك‬ْ‫ل‬ِ‫ل‬َِ‫س‬ْ‫ي‬َ‫ل‬ِ‫ه‬َ‫ل‬ِ‫ع‬ِ‫ف‬‫َا‬‫د‬
70:2)It is for the disbelievers and there is none to avert it.

The status of People:
ِ‫ة‬َ‫ض‬ِ‫ف‬‫ا‬َ‫خ‬ِ‫ة‬َ‫ع‬ِ‫ف‬‫ا‬َ‫ر‬
56:3) Then some shall be abased and some exalted.
• On this day, a person shall be evaluated according to his faith and
deeds.
• The believers who were despised and downtrodden in the worldly
life will be exalted and elevated (with honor and status)
• The Disbeliever who were mighty and rich in the worldly life will be
abased (deprived and humiliated).

The condition of the earth:
‫ا‬َ‫ذ‬ِ‫إ‬ِِ‫ت‬َّ‫ج‬‫ر‬ِ‫ض‬ْ‫ر‬َ ْ‫اْل‬‫ا‬ًّ‫ج‬َ‫ر‬
56:4)The earth shall be shaken with severe shaking.
• The verse describes how the whole earth will be violently shaken
on the day of judgement.
• It will cause all the high structures to be levelled to the ground.
• It will not be a local earthquake that may occur in restricted area.

Similarly in the other surah of the Quran, Allah portrays the
Earthquake
‫ا‬َ‫ذ‬ِ‫إ‬ِِ‫ت‬َ‫ل‬ ِ‫ز‬ْ‫ل‬‫ز‬ِ‫ض‬ْ‫ر‬َ ْ‫اْل‬‫ا‬َ‫ه‬َ‫ل‬‫ا‬َ‫ز‬ْ‫ل‬ ِ‫ز‬
99:10)When the earth will be shaken to her utmost convulsion.
ِِ‫ت‬َ‫ل‬ِ‫م‬‫ح‬َ‫و‬ِ‫ض‬ْ‫ر‬َ ْ‫اْل‬ِ‫ال‬َ‫ب‬ ِ‫ج‬ْ‫ل‬‫ا‬َ‫و‬‫ا‬َ‫ت‬َّ‫ك‬‫د‬َ‫ف‬ِ‫َّة‬‫ك‬َ‫د‬ِ‫َة‬‫د‬ ِ‫اح‬َ‫و‬
69:14)And the earth with all its mountains will be lifted up and crushed
into pieces with a single stroke.
‫ا‬َ‫ي‬‫ا‬َ‫ه‬ُّ‫ي‬َ‫أ‬ِ‫اس‬َّ‫ن‬‫ال‬‫وا‬‫ق‬َّ‫ت‬‫ا‬ِْ‫م‬‫ك‬َّ‫ب‬َ‫ر‬َِِّۚ‫ن‬ِ‫إ‬َِ‫ة‬َ‫ل‬َ‫ز‬ْ‫ل‬َ‫ز‬ِِ‫ة‬َ‫ع‬‫ا‬َّ‫س‬‫ال‬ِ‫ء‬ْ‫ي‬َ‫ش‬ِ‫يم‬ِ‫َظ‬‫ع‬
22:1)O mankind! Have fear of your Rabb; the catastrophic quaken of
the Hour of Doom will be terrible indeed.
َِ‫م‬ ْ‫و‬َ‫ي‬ِ‫ف‬‫ج‬ْ‫ر‬َ‫ت‬ِ‫ض‬ْ‫ر‬َ ْ‫اْل‬ِ‫ال‬َ‫ب‬ ِ‫ج‬ْ‫ل‬‫ا‬َ‫و‬ِِ‫ت‬َ‫ن‬‫َا‬‫ك‬َ‫و‬ِ‫ال‬َ‫ب‬ ِ‫ج‬ْ‫ل‬‫ا‬‫ا‬‫يب‬ِ‫ث‬َ‫ك‬‫ي‬ِ‫ه‬َ‫م‬ِ‫َل‬
73:14)On the day when the earth with all it's mountains will be in a
violent commotion, and the mountains will crumble into heaps of
shifting sand.

The condition of the Mountains:
ِِ‫ت‬َّ‫س‬‫ب‬َ‫و‬ِ‫ال‬َ‫ب‬ ِ‫ج‬ْ‫ل‬‫ا‬‫ا‬ًّ‫س‬َ‫ب‬
56:5)And the mountains shall be made to crumble with awful
crumbling
ِْ‫ت‬َ‫ن‬‫َا‬‫ك‬َ‫ف‬ِ‫اء‬َ‫ب‬َ‫ه‬‫ا‬ًّ‫ث‬َ‫ب‬ْ‫ن‬‫م‬
56:6)And become like scattered dust.
• The towering mountains will become floating dust particles.
• The mountain will become like a heap of sand.
• The Gigantic mountain will be levelled to the Ground.
• This depicts the severity of the day of Judgement.

Three Groups of people on the day of resurrection:
ِْ‫م‬‫ت‬ْ‫ن‬‫ك‬َ‫و‬‫ا‬‫اج‬َ‫و‬ْ‫ز‬َ‫أ‬ِ‫ة‬َ‫ث‬ َ‫َل‬َ‫ث‬
56:7)Then you shall be divided into three groups:
The verse means that:
• All human beings who have been born since first day of creation will
ultimately be divided into three classes on the day of judgement.
• Allah(swt) also divides people into three groups upon their death, as
is indicated at the end of this surah.

1)The people on the right
ِ‫اب‬َ‫ح‬ْ‫ص‬َ‫أ‬َ‫ف‬ِِ‫ة‬َ‫ن‬َ‫م‬ْ‫ي‬َ‫م‬ْ‫ل‬‫ا‬‫ا‬َ‫م‬ِ‫اب‬َ‫ح‬ْ‫ص‬َ‫أ‬ِِ‫ة‬َ‫ن‬َ‫م‬ْ‫ي‬َ‫م‬ْ‫ل‬‫ا‬
56:8)those on the right hand - how blessed shall be the people of the
right hand.
• The Arabs regard the right hand as a symbol of strength, eminence
and honor.
• The people who will receive their book of deeds in the right hand
will be exalted in rank and will be blessed on the day of judgement.

Similarly in the other surah of the Quran, Allah says about the People
of the Right Hand
‫ا‬َّ‫م‬َ‫أ‬َ‫ف‬ِْ‫ن‬َ‫م‬َِ‫ي‬ِ‫ت‬‫و‬‫أ‬ِ‫ه‬َ‫ب‬‫ا‬َ‫ت‬ِ‫ك‬ِِ‫ه‬ِ‫ن‬‫ي‬ِ‫م‬َ‫ي‬ِ‫ب‬ِ‫ول‬‫ق‬َ‫ي‬َ‫ف‬ِ‫م‬‫اؤ‬َ‫ه‬‫وا‬‫ء‬َ‫ر‬ْ‫اق‬َِ‫ت‬ِ‫ك‬ِْ‫ه‬َ‫ي‬ِ‫ب‬‫ا‬
69:19)Then he, who will be given his Book of Deeds in his right hand,
will say: "Here it is, read my Book of deeds!“
‫ي‬ِ‫ن‬ِ‫إ‬ِ‫ت‬ْ‫ن‬َ‫ن‬َ‫ظ‬‫ي‬ِ‫ن‬َ‫أ‬ِ‫ق‬ َ‫َل‬‫م‬ِْ‫ه‬َ‫ي‬ِ‫ب‬‫ا‬َ‫س‬ ِ‫ح‬
69:20)I knew that I would certainly face my reckoning.“

35:32) some follow a middle course.

2 The people on the left:
ِ‫اب‬َ‫ح‬ْ‫ص‬َ‫أ‬َ‫و‬ِِ‫ة‬َ‫م‬َ‫ْأ‬‫ش‬َ‫م‬ْ‫ل‬‫ا‬‫ا‬َ‫م‬ِ‫اب‬َ‫ح‬ْ‫ص‬َ‫أ‬ِِ‫ة‬َ‫م‬َ‫ْأ‬‫ش‬َ‫م‬ْ‫ل‬‫ا‬
56:9)those on the left hand - how damned shall be the people of the
left hand.
• The Arabs regard the left hand being a symbol of weakness and
indignity.
• The people who will receive their book of deeds in the left hand will
be abased and will be in a miserable condition.

Similarly in the other surah of the Quran, Allah says about the People
of the Left Hand
‫ا‬َّ‫م‬َ‫أ‬َ‫و‬ِْ‫ن‬َ‫م‬َِ‫ي‬ِ‫ت‬‫و‬‫أ‬ِ‫ه‬َ‫ب‬‫ا‬َ‫ت‬ِ‫ك‬ِِ‫ه‬ِ‫ل‬‫ا‬َ‫م‬ِ‫ش‬ِ‫ب‬
69:25)While he, who will be given his Book of Deeds in his left hand,
ِْ‫م‬َ‫ل‬َ‫و‬ِِ‫ْر‬‫د‬َ‫أ‬‫ا‬َ‫م‬ِْ‫ه‬َ‫ي‬ِ‫ب‬‫ا‬َ‫س‬ ِ‫ح‬
69:26)nor known what my account was!
‫ا‬َ‫ي‬‫ا‬َ‫ه‬َ‫ت‬ْ‫ي‬َ‫ل‬ِِ‫ت‬َ‫ن‬‫َا‬‫ك‬َِ‫ة‬َ‫ي‬ ِ‫اض‬َ‫ق‬ْ‫ل‬‫ا‬
69:27)Would that my death had ended all!
‫ا‬َ‫م‬ِ‫ى‬َ‫ن‬ْ‫غ‬َ‫أ‬‫ي‬ِ‫َن‬‫ع‬ِْ‫ه‬َ‫ي‬ِ‫ل‬‫ا‬َ‫م‬
69:28)My wealth had availed me nothing,
َِ‫ِين‬‫ذ‬َّ‫ل‬‫وا‬‫وا‬‫ر‬َ‫ف‬َ‫ك‬‫ا‬َ‫ن‬ِ‫ت‬‫ا‬َ‫ي‬‫آ‬ِ‫ب‬ِْ‫م‬‫ه‬ِ‫اب‬َ‫ح‬ْ‫ص‬َ‫أ‬ِِ‫ة‬َ‫م‬َ‫أ‬ْ‫ش‬َ‫م‬ْ‫ل‬‫ا‬
90:19)But those who disbelieve Our revelations, they are the people of
the left hand (going towards hell).

3 The Foremost People:
َِ‫ون‬‫ق‬ِ‫ب‬‫ا‬َّ‫س‬‫ال‬َ‫و‬َِ‫ون‬‫ق‬ِ‫ب‬‫ا‬َّ‫س‬‫ال‬
56:10)And foremost shall be the foremost.
• The word “the foremost” (Sabiqun) refers to the fortunate believers
who will be granted special nearness to Allah because they excelled
in performing good deeds, as Allah commanded them.
• They rush towards performing Allah’s command which leads them
to earn Allah’s mercy and pleasure.

The foremost

Similarly in the other Surahs of the Quran, Allah (swt) says about the
foremost believers
ِْ‫م‬‫ه‬ْ‫ن‬ِ‫م‬َ‫و‬ِ‫ق‬ِ‫ب‬‫ا‬َ‫س‬ِِ‫ت‬‫ا‬َ‫ر‬ْ‫ي‬َ‫خ‬ْ‫ل‬‫ا‬ِ‫ب‬ِِ‫ن‬ْ‫ذ‬ِ‫إ‬ِ‫ب‬ِِ َّ‫اّلل‬ِۚ
35:32)And of them are some who are , by Allah leave, foremost in good
deeds.
‫وا‬‫ع‬ ِ‫ار‬َ‫س‬َ‫و‬ِ‫ى‬َ‫ل‬ِ‫إ‬ِ‫ة‬َ‫ر‬ِ‫ف‬ْ‫غ‬َ‫م‬ِْ‫ن‬ِ‫م‬ِْ‫م‬‫ك‬ِ‫ب‬َ‫ر‬ِ‫ة‬َّ‫ن‬َ‫ج‬َ‫و‬‫ا‬َ‫ه‬‫ض‬ْ‫َر‬‫ع‬َِ‫او‬َ‫م‬َّ‫س‬‫ال‬ِ‫ات‬ِ‫ض‬ْ‫ر‬َ ْ‫اْل‬َ‫و‬
3:133)Rush towards the forgiveness from your Rabb to a Paradise as
vast as the Heavens and the earth.
‫وا‬‫ق‬ِ‫ب‬‫ا‬َ‫س‬ِ‫ى‬َ‫ل‬ِ‫إ‬ِ‫ة‬َ‫ر‬ِ‫ف‬ْ‫غ‬َ‫م‬ِْ‫ن‬ِ‫م‬ِْ‫م‬‫ك‬ِ‫ب‬َ‫ر‬ِ‫ة‬َّ‫ن‬َ‫ج‬َ‫و‬‫ا‬َ‫ه‬‫ض‬ْ‫َر‬‫ع‬ِِ‫ض‬ْ‫ر‬َ‫ع‬َ‫ك‬‫ا‬ِِ‫اء‬َ‫م‬َّ‫س‬‫ل‬ِِ‫ض‬ْ‫ر‬َ ْ‫اْل‬َ‫و‬

When the inevitable event will take place, all peoples will be divided
into three classes.
1) The foremost in rank and position [Prophets, martyrs and
righteous].
2) The people of the right [common righteous believers].
3) The people of the left [persisted in disbelief of Allah, his messenger

56:11)They will be nearest to Allah.

• Ibn-Kathir, Abu Hayyan, Qurtubi, and Alama Aloossi prefer this
interpretation, that the ‘earlier generation’ and the ‘later
generations’ refer to the followers of Holy Prophet’s own Ummah.

⮚The earlier generation consists of the Holy Prophet(saw) and his
companions.
Later Generation: َِ‫ين‬ ِ‫ر‬ ِ‫خ‬ ْ‫اْل‬
⮚Later generation includes all those who came after the Holy
Prophet(saw)and his companions.

The Breakdown of the Muqarrabeen
• The words ( ِ‫ة‬َّ‫ل‬ُ‫ث‬ِ‫ن‬‫م‬ِ‫ين‬‫ل‬ َّ‫و‬ ‫أ‬‫اْل‬ ) mean majority of the foremost believers
belong to the earlier generation of the Ummah of the Prophet
Muhammad (saw).
• The words( ِ‫يل‬‫ل‬‫ق‬ِ‫ن‬‫م‬ِ‫ين‬‫ر‬‫خ‬ ‫أ‬‫اْل‬ ) mean a small number of the foremost
believers will come from the later generation of the Ummah of the
Prophet Muhammad (saw).

2.Thrones Of Gold

56:15)They shall have the jewelled couches,

• The Youth of paradise will be the servants of the dwellers of
paradise.
• They will never grow old or change in shape.
• These immortal boys will go around with cups, jugs and
glasses of flowing wine.
• The dwellers of paradise will never get headaches, nor
intoxicated from this wine.
• While the wine of paradise will be free from these side
effects, it shall have a delightful taste.

4.Fruits:

• The servants will serve the Muqarrabeen the meat of birds they
desire.
• The word(َِ‫ون‬‫ر‬َّ‫ي‬َ‫خ‬َ‫ت‬َ‫ي‬) and (َِ‫ون‬‫ه‬َ‫ت‬ْ‫ش‬َ‫ي‬) show that people will be allowed to
choose and wish for whatever they want in the paradise.
• Together with wine, other delicacies such as fruits and bird meat will
be served to please their taste buds.

• They will be given wide eyed maiden, who will be pure and
untouched like hidden pearl.

• This is the real success achieved by the foremost believers.

7.No vain talk or Sinful Speech Only Greeting of Peace:
َِ‫ل‬َِ‫ون‬‫ع‬َ‫م‬ْ‫س‬َ‫ي‬‫ا‬َ‫ه‬‫ي‬ِ‫ف‬‫ا‬‫و‬ْ‫غ‬َ‫ل‬َِ‫ل‬َ‫و‬‫ا‬‫يم‬ِ‫ث‬ْ‫أ‬َ‫ت‬
56:25)There they shall not hear any vain talk nor sinful words,
َِّ‫ل‬ِ‫إ‬ِ‫يَل‬ِ‫ق‬‫ا‬‫م‬ َ‫َل‬َ‫س‬‫ا‬‫م‬ َ‫َل‬َ‫س‬
56:26)but only the greetings of "Peace be upon you! Peace be upon
you!“
Analysis:
• Paradise will have a noble environment.
• Peace and mercy will embrace them from all slides.
• They will be greeted from God, the angels and from their companions.

1.Among the Lote-Trees:

56:28)They shall be among the thorn less lot trees.
• The Lote tree of this life is thorny and carries few fruits.
• In paradise, it is the opposite; it will have no thorns and will carry
plenty of fruits.
• The people of the right hand will be in the midst of thornless Lote
trees in paradise.

• Ibn- Zayd Added:
“The people of Yemen call the banana tree, “ِ‫ح‬ْ‫ل‬َ‫ط‬”

• The Prophet(saw) is reported to have said, according to
Sahihain, that in paradise there are trees so large that a rider
may travel for hundred years under its shades, but would not
be able to pass it.

• The orchard shall be continuously watered so that its freshness and

47:15)Here is the parable of the paradise which the righteous have
been promised: it has rivers the water of which will never be stagnant,
rivers of milk whose taste never changes, rivers of wine delicious to
those who drink, and rivers of honey pure and clear.

3) Rivers of wine.
4) Rivers of pure honey.

• In paradise, every kind of fruit will remain available in abundance
regardless of season.
• There will be no prohibition or hindrance in obtaining fruit.
• They will be easy to reach.

upraised couches.

36:56)They and their spouses will be in shady groves reclining
on soft couches.

7.Women of Paradise

56:35)We shall create their wives of special creation.
• This refers to the virtuous women, who will enter paradise on the
basis of their faith and good work.
• The women of this world will be recreated in paradise.

• Allah will make them a fresh creation:
⮚Young no matter how aged they might have died in the
world.
⮚Beautiful Whether or not they were beautiful in the world.
⮚Virgins Weather they died virgin in the world or after bearing
child.
• If their husbands also entered paradise, they would be joined
with them. Otherwise, Allah(swt) will wed them to another
dweller in paradise.

Verses (38-40) imply that:
• All of the blessings and bounties, which are mentioned

• This is in contrast to the foremost in faith whose majority
will constitute from the earlier generation and minority will
be from the later generation. [56:13-14].

• They will be under the shade of black smoke which will neither be
cooling nor soothing.

The characteristics and conduct of the people of left hand:
1) Showing Ingratitude to the blessings and favours of Allah:
ِْ‫م‬‫ه‬َّ‫ن‬ِ‫إ‬‫وا‬‫َان‬‫ك‬َِ‫ل‬ْ‫ب‬َ‫ق‬َِ‫ك‬ِ‫ل‬َ‫ذ‬َِ‫ين‬ِ‫ف‬َ‫ر‬ْ‫ت‬‫م‬
56:45)For they lived in comfort before meeting this fate.

Indulge in Luxury

Characteristics of the People of the Left Hand
• They were lost in enjoying life’s pleasures and satisfying their
whims and fancies while ignoring the invitation towards the
truth.
• Their prosperity had an adverse effect on them. Instead of
being grateful for Allah’s blessings and favours, they had
become disobedient and ungrateful to Allah.

2) Persisting in the Disbelief in Allah:
‫وا‬‫َان‬‫ك‬َ‫و‬َِ‫ون‬ُّ‫ر‬ ِ‫ص‬‫ي‬‫ى‬َ‫ل‬َ‫ع‬ِِ‫ث‬ْ‫ن‬ ِ‫ح‬ْ‫ل‬‫ا‬ِِ‫يم‬ِ‫ظ‬َ‫ع‬ْ‫ل‬‫ا‬
56:46)They persisted in heinous sins.
• They persisted in committing polytheism (associating others with
Allah is considered to be the greatest sin).
• Claimed Idols were gods besides Allah.

3) Denying The day of Resurrection:
‫وا‬‫َان‬‫ك‬َ‫و‬َِ‫ون‬‫ول‬‫ق‬َ‫ي‬‫ا‬َ‫ذ‬ِ‫ئ‬َ‫أ‬‫ا‬َ‫ن‬ْ‫ت‬ِ‫م‬‫ا‬َّ‫ن‬‫ك‬َ‫و‬‫ا‬‫اب‬َ‫ر‬‫ت‬‫ا‬‫ام‬َ‫ظ‬ِ‫ع‬َ‫و‬‫ا‬َّ‫ن‬ِ‫إ‬َ‫أ‬ِْ‫ب‬َ‫م‬َ‫ل‬َِ‫ون‬‫وث‬‫ع‬
56:47)And used to say: "When we are dead and turned to dust and
bones, shall we then be raised to life again?
‫ا‬َ‫ن‬‫اؤ‬َ‫ب‬‫آ‬َ‫و‬َ‫أ‬َِ‫ون‬‫ل‬َّ‫و‬َ ْ‫اْل‬
56:48)And our forefathers, too?“
• They reckoned that it was impossible to resurrect them and their
forefathers after their bodies would decay and decompose into
dust.
• They denied the resurrection, reward and punishment.
• They denied meeting Allah on that day.

56:49)Tell them: "Surely those of old and those of present age.
َِ‫ون‬‫وع‬‫م‬ْ‫ج‬َ‫م‬َ‫ل‬ِ‫ى‬َ‫ل‬ِ‫إ‬ِِ‫ت‬‫ا‬َ‫ق‬‫ي‬ِ‫م‬ِ‫م‬ ْ‫و‬َ‫ي‬ِ‫وم‬‫ل‬ْ‫ع‬َ‫م‬
56:50)Shall certainly be brought together on an appointed time of a
known Day.
• These verses are in response to their denying the day of
resurrection.
• The verse addresses the Prophet(saw) but the real audience is the
disbelievers of Makkah.
• Allah is reminding the disbelievers that the earlier and later
generation of the children of Adam(a.s) will be gathered on the day
of resurrection and none of them will be left out.

1.Eating From Tree Of Zaqqum:
َِّ‫م‬‫ث‬ِْ‫م‬‫ك‬َّ‫ن‬ِ‫إ‬‫ا‬َ‫ه‬ُّ‫ي‬َ‫أ‬َِ‫ون‬ُّ‫ل‬‫ا‬َّ‫ض‬‫ال‬َِ‫ون‬‫ِب‬‫َذ‬‫ك‬‫م‬ْ‫ل‬‫ا‬
56:51)Then, "O the mistaken rejecters.
َِ‫ون‬‫ل‬ِ‫ك‬ َ‫ْل‬ِْ‫ن‬ِ‫م‬ِ‫ر‬َ‫ج‬َ‫ش‬ِْ‫ن‬ِ‫م‬‫وم‬ُّ‫ق‬َ‫ز‬
56:52)you shall eat of the Zaqqum tree.
َِ‫ون‬‫ئ‬ِ‫ل‬‫ا‬َ‫م‬َ‫ف‬‫ا‬َ‫ه‬ْ‫ن‬ِ‫م‬َِ‫ون‬‫ط‬‫ب‬ْ‫ل‬‫ا‬
56:53)and fill your bellies with it.

• The deniers of the day of resurrection are addressed with the words
[َِ‫ون‬ُّ‫ل‬‫ا‬َّ‫ض‬‫:ال‬ misguided] and [َِ‫ون‬‫ِب‬‫َذ‬‫ك‬‫م‬ْ‫ل‬‫:ا‬ denier] due to their crimes
[polytheism and denial of the hereafter].
• They are warned that they will be seized and made to eat from the
tree of zaqqum until their stomachs become full.

Similarly In The other Surahs of the Quran, Allah(swt) says about the
Zaqqum Tree
َِّ‫ن‬ِ‫إ‬َِ‫ت‬َ‫ر‬َ‫ج‬َ‫ش‬ِِ‫وم‬ُّ‫ق‬َّ‫الز‬
44:43)Surely the Zaqqum tree
ِ‫ام‬َ‫ع‬َ‫ط‬‫يم‬ِ‫ث‬َ ْ‫اْل‬
44:44)shall be the food of the sinners,
ِِ‫ل‬ْ‫ه‬‫م‬ْ‫ل‬‫َا‬‫ك‬‫ي‬ِ‫ل‬ْ‫غ‬َ‫ي‬‫ي‬ِ‫ف‬ِِ‫ون‬‫ط‬‫ب‬ْ‫ل‬‫ا‬
44:45)it will be like the drags of oil. Which shall boil in the belly
ِِ‫ي‬ْ‫ل‬َ‫غ‬َ‫ك‬ِِ‫يم‬ِ‫م‬َ‫ح‬ْ‫ل‬‫ا‬
44:46)like the boiling of scalding water.

2.Drinking Boiling water:
َِ‫ون‬‫ب‬ ِ‫َار‬‫ش‬َ‫ف‬ِِ‫ه‬ْ‫ي‬َ‫ل‬َ‫ع‬َِ‫ن‬ِ‫م‬ِِ‫يم‬ِ‫م‬َ‫ح‬ْ‫ل‬‫ا‬
56:54)And drink on top of it scalding water;
َِ‫ون‬‫ب‬ ِ‫َار‬‫ش‬َ‫ف‬َِ‫ب‬ْ‫ر‬‫ش‬ِِ‫يم‬ِ‫ه‬ْ‫ل‬‫ا‬
56:55)yet you shall drink it like a thirsty camel.“
• The verses portray the scene of the punishment of the disbelievers
in the Hell.
• They are told that you will drink boiling water like thirsty camels do.
• This water will never quench their thirst.

And drink
ِِ‫يم‬ِ‫م‬َ‫ح‬ْ‫ل‬‫ا‬
the scalding water
ِِ‫يم‬ِ‫ه‬ْ‫ل‬‫ا‬
the thirsty camels

‫ا‬َ‫ذ‬َ‫ه‬ِْ‫م‬‫ه‬‫ل‬‫ز‬‫ن‬َِ‫م‬ ْ‫و‬َ‫ي‬ِِ‫ِين‬‫الد‬
56:56)Such will be their entertainment on the Day of Reckoning.
• ‫نزل‬refer to the edibles which are presented to a guest as soon as he
enters.
• The tree of Zaqqum and hot water will be served to entertain the
disbelievers on the day of resurrection.
