2. TIP # 1
• IMPAIRS COGNITIVE PERFORMANCE-Refined sugar puts an abundance of sugar
into the bloodstream at one time. The pancreas overproduces insulin to reduce the blood
sugar level quickly.
• EXCESS SUGAR = EXCESS INSULIN PRODUCTION- Which causes one’s body to
become depleted in calcium, magnesium, and chromium if sugar and sweets are consistently
indulged.
• CAUSES WEIGHT GAIN-Excess insulin promotes fat synthesis.
• HEALTHY ALTERNATIVES – Stevia-Unlike sugar it does not trigger high blood
glucose. No abnormalities in weight change
Honey- contains antioxidants and it helps to protect the gastric mucosa in the stomach.
SUGAR-Sugar is an edible crystalline substance. It
is naturally produced from sugar cane or sugar beets.
(glucose, fructose, galactose, and maltose are all forms
of sugars.
3. MIND & BODY CONNECTION
• “It must be kept before the people that the right balance of
the mental and moral powers depends in a great degree on
the right condition of the physical system. All narcotics and
unnatural stimulants that enfeeble and degrade the physical
nature tend to lower the tone of the intellect and morals.
Intemperance lies at the foundation of the moral depravity
of the world. By the indulgence of perverted appetite, man
loses his power to resist temptation.” {MH 335.1}

4. DON’T BE A SICKLY
CHRISTIAN
• The Lord calls for volunteers to enter His army. Sickly men and women need to
become health reformers. God will cooperate with His children in preserving
their health, if they eat with care, refusing to put unnecessary burdens on the
stomach. He has graciously made the path of nature sure and safe, wide enough for
all who walk in it. He has given for our sustenance the wholesome and health-giving
productions of the earth. He who does not heed the instruction God has given in His
word and in His works, he who does not obey the divine commands, has a defective
experience. He is a sickly Christian. His spiritual life is feeble. He lives, but his life is
devoid of fragrance. He fritters away precious moments of grace. {CD p. 40}

5. A CLEAR ENERGETIC
MIND
• You need clear, energetic minds, in order to appreciate the exalted
character of the truth, to value the atonement, and to place the right
estimate upon eternal things. If you pursue a wrong course, and indulge in
wrong habits of eating, and thereby weaken the intellectual powers, you
will not place that high estimate upon salvation and eternal life which will
inspire you to conform your life to the life of Christ; you will not make
those earnest, self-sacrificing efforts for entire conformity to the will of
God, which His word requires and which are necessary to give you a
moral fitness for the finishing touch of immortality.

6. APPETITE INDULGENCE=
NO CHRISTIAN PERFECTION
• {Y.I., May 31, 1894-} Eating, drinking, and dressing all have a direct
bearing upon our spiritual advancement.
• {Health Reformer, September, 1871}-The Spirit of God cannot come
to our help, and assist us in perfecting Christian characters, while we are
indulging our appetites to the injury of health, and while the pride of
life controls.
• {(1870) 2T 400 }- All who are partakers of the divine nature will escape
the corruption that is in the world through lust. It is impossible for
those who indulge the appetite to attain to Christian perfection.

7. A program for improving the
memory
• First- be strictly regular in all things; i.e.- have a special time for major events
such as going to bed, eating one's meals, getting up, having exercise, and the
like. Regularity tends to improve the memory. Second, one should never lie
down after a meal. To do so may cause the early onset of senility. The tissues
of the brain become starved of oxygen if one reclines after eating. Since fats
tend to build up in the bloodstream after a meal and fats in the blood can
cause clumping together of red blood cells, tiny capillaries get temporarily
plugged up, and the oxygen supply to the brain is much less than if one has
some mild exercise after a meal. Third, one should neither crowd too many
things into a small amount of time, nor allow time to pass without profitably
using it.

8. The need for dealing with the Past
• The past shapes the present and the present shapes our future.
• •“The lessons that the child learns during the first seven years of
life have more to do with forming his character than all that it
learns in future years.” CG 193
• •“Jesus Christ has plentiful help and grace for all who will
appreciate it. The Lord is our helper; with Him is forgiveness. He
alone can blot out the sins of the past. He can strengthen the
mind. If we regard the past as no longer our enemy but as a
friend to warn us of the ground we should not approach, it will
prove a true friend.” TMK 89

9. The need for dealing with the Past
• Unresolved conflicts from the past can undermine our health}:
• • “The relation that exists between the mind and the body is very
intimate. When one is affected, the other sympathizes. The condition
of the mind affects the health to a far greater degree than many
realize. Many of the diseases from which men suffer are the result of
mental depression. Grief, anxiety, discontent, remorse, guilt, distrust,
all tend to break down the life forces and invite decay and death.” MH 241
• Guard the avenues of your souls} avoid reading, seeing, or hearing that
which will suggest impure thoughts.
