Virtual Christmas Market!
In a time where both charities and businesses are struggling, we
thought we could help each other by setting up a virtual Christmas
marketplace.
If you are interested in having a virtual pitch, you can do so for just
£5 and advertise your shop and products as many times a day as you
like until December 17th.
Please email administrator@strattonplaygroup.org for further
information, or to book your 'stall'. All profits will be shared between
Stratton Primary School & Stratton Playgroup.
If you want to browse the market, then please join the Facebook group
'Cirencester Virtual Christmas Market'. (Or follow this link: https://

Happy Shopping!

The project to install two new statues in
the tower of the Parish Church is coming
to fruition. The Diocese of Gloucester
has now granted a Faculty to permit the
statues of St John the Baptist and the
Virgin and Child to be restored to the
niches in the Parish church tower.
“Black Jack” (St John
the Baptist) is
depicted presenting a
lamb to the world,
linking the image to
the text “Behold the
Lamb of God”. This is
particularly apposite
as Cirencester Parish
Church is one of the
Wool churches of the
Cotswold and it is
hoped that in the final
statue the lamb will be based on a
Cotswold Lion, the breed that brought
wool production to the Cotswolds
The Virgin and Child is
unusual in that the child
is not a baby cradled in
his mother’s arms, but is
a depicted as a curious
child leaning out to
engage with the world
below (i.e. Cirencester
Market Place). The image
is one which is timeless;
of a mother lovingly both
protecting her child and
letting him explore a world with a sense
of adventure and of the unknown.
The maquettes are on show at the
entrance to the Trinity Chapel, along
with some information boards about the
project. Information is available on the
website https://projectblackjack.org.uk.
The Bishop of Gloucester is coming to
Cirencester on 5th September 2021 to
“unveil” the statues.
Thanks to one of the Town Guides the
project is now able to offer a guided
walk/talk about the tower and the
statues. Entitled “Rebellion and
Mystery” it provides an insight into the
origins of the tower based on the 15th
century insurrection of Henry
Bolingbroke and the execution of the
earls, and unfolds its story up to the
21st
century and the reintroduction of
the statues into the now empty niches.
Due to Covid restrictions only five
people can take part at any one time
and the talk will run most Saturday
mornings at 10.30. This can be booked
at info@projectblackjack.org.uk or by
telephoning 07922 044 442. There are
no steps and very little walking, so it is
suitable for a wide range of people.
Participants are asked to make a
donation to support the project
(suggested amount £3).
If you would like to contribute to the
project please send your donation to the

Jack) sort code 40-52-40 a/c
