Our client desired two houses and common facilities on a land near Chiang Mai. The site is exceptional, it is a large piece of woody land with a long slope to a lake, offering scenic views on the nearby mountains. A site with qualities needs a project that both respect and enhance it. Our work use the geographic characteristics of this land in order to offer the best of it while preserving its original soul. Situated architecture Niwat Architects was founded on 1972 by Dr.Niwat Tantayanusorn. With a focus on Lanna culture, Niwat Architects has designed dozens of buildings, mainly residential and otel&resort.The cultural and environmental based designs are spread all over the Thailand, mainly in northern part of the country. Apart from our passion on Lanna culture, we specialize in green and sustainable design, by exploring passive design techniques and alternative energy and material usage. Our purpose is to bring a high quality of work that blends with the surrounding nature; therefore we believe that our job is to design the architecture and the surroundings. The design process of this project focused on the deep
relationship between the architecture and the site.
Our client desired two houses and common facilities on
a land near Chiang Mai. The site is exceptional, it is
a large piece of woody land with a long slope to a
lake, offering scenic views on the nearby mountains. A
site with qualities needs a project that both respect
and enhance it. Our work use the geographic
characteristics of this land in order to offer the
best of it while preserving its original soul.

2. The two houses are implanted and oriented in order to
fit to the existing landscape. Their architecture is
adapted to the slope in order to offer the inhabitant
the best views and feelings of the land. The upper
floors contains the bedrooms and private functions in
a kind of wood box that is like floating over the
slope and open to the lake views and natural wind. The
ground floors design is totally different. The big
living room is deeply link with the nature. After
passing through a terraced garden, you enter to the
living area and can access to a large terrace. This
architecture of concrete is directly connect to the

3. site, it acts as a frame in order to enjoy the scenic
view on surrounding lake and mountains.
