2. Homo Habilis (Handy Humans)
-lived from about 2.5 to 1.5 million years
ago
-had larger brains
-had long arms, fingers and toes made it
possible for them to get around in trees as well as
on the ground
-made and used tools
3. Homo Erectus (Erect Man)
-had larger brain that Homo Habilis
-believed t be the first to leave Africa
-died out about 100, 000 years ago
-first to control fire
4. Homo Heidelbergensis
-named after a jaw found in
Heidelberg, Germany
- lived between 600, 000 and
100, 000 years ago
-had brain about the same size as
ours, but with bigger face and teeth

-had spread to the Middle East, Asia
and Australia 60, 000 years ago
-lived in many places around the
globe at the same time that the
Neanderthals were alive
