More to life than ‘Gimme Dat’
The Youth Shadow Board have completed filming ‘Gimme Dat’, their video for the PCU.
Made with the help of Christian rapper Tneek, the film looks at how materialist young people can be. It encourages them to think again about how they spend their money and become ‘money wise’ instead – because it’s wisdom, not wealth, that gets you through life successfully.
The video will launch in October to promote the PCU to young people.

More to life than ‘Gimme Dat’
On the road
for the PCU
The PCU Roadshow is going
well and doing a great job of
bringing in new members.
So far, we’ve visited churches and
church groups in Croydon, Mitcham,
Forest Gate, Willesden, Luton and
Birmingham. We will be returning
to Birmingham in September, to
reach out further to Pentecostal
churches in the Midlands.
The Roadshow will come to an end
on 30 October, but it’s not too late
to involve your church. We can offer
free workshops around money
management, debt and the value of
saving – at a time that suits your
church or group
For more information, email

Bowes on 020 3793 5769.

2. Creating amazing young people
The PCU has partnered with the New Life Assembly
Supplementary School to provide a Youth Leadership and
Entrepreneurship Development Programme for members
of our Youth Shadow Board and young people from the
New Life Assembly Church.
Work experience
for Jabril
Jabril Isaak joined PCU for a
short internship in August to
gain valuable work experience
before starting Year 11 at
school.
Jabril is aiming for a career in
investment banking, so we gave
him hands-on experience
shadowing Lauren Humphris – our
Loans and Business Administrator.
During his time with us, he learned
how to process loans and handle
withdrawals, and found out how
the credit union works.
“My time here has been great,”
Jabril told us. “I'm being treated as
a full member of the team and
they are really engaging with me.
I also get to see what Shane does.
“The team here have a great
understanding of young people
and there are strong reasons why
young people should join the PCU.
Once you become a member you
own part of it. The team here are
trying to make it even better than
it is. They have a good
understanding of their customers.”

Board meets for annual strategy meeting
‘#CreatAmazing’ will be delivered
for us by Romeo Effs and his team
at the Empire Builders Academy
and will aim to develop and
empower our next generation of
leaders.
The programme is designed to help
young people:
• build confidence,
• enhance their leadership skills
• explore their vision and personal
aspirations
• help them overcome any limiting
fears and anxieties, and
• develop the right approaches and
attitudes, so they can create the
future they want, whether that’s
in business, academia or a career.
The course will consists of a series
of training workshops with three
core modules: Leadership, Money
management and Your next bold
move.
There will be follow-up support,
with entry into an Executive Insight
Leadership Masterclass and the
Boldness in Business Bootcamp.
The young people will also have
access to a circle of successful
young entrepreneurs, who will
support their development.
The programme will start in
October.
5-year bond for new customers and
relaunched a 5-year bond at 1.5%.
What this means for
members
The PCU returned a gross dividend to
its members of 1.5% in May 2016,
which, even when compared to pre-
Brexit rates at many high street
banks, is highly attractive. With
savings rates likely to plummet still
further, British savers are faced with
the prospect of savings rates falling
below the rate of inflation.
Members of the Pentecostal Credit
Union are in a unique position,
however, in that deposits held at PCU
have never attracted a dividend of
less than 1% since the inception of
the union in 1980. Members are
encouraged to continue to use PCU
as a safe place for their deposits,
especially in view of the meagre
returns available to savers in the
wider bank market.
Pentecostal churches, who are also
members of the PCU.
The five who joined us for lunch and
prayer (pictured below left) were the
Rev. Currie from the United Church of
God, the Rev. Jean Pierre from the
New Testament Assembly, the Rev.
Brown from the Assemblies of the
First Born, the Rev. Bent from New
Life Assemblies and Bishop Thomas
from the Faith Chapel.
The Rev. Jones said: “The main
purpose of the prayer meeting is to
support the magnificent task being
carried out by the leadership team of
the PCU. This is our responsibility as
senior Pentecostal Leaders in Great
Britain. I very much hope that we
might be able to replicate this once
per annum.”
Supporting the PCU through prayer
At the AGM in March, members agreed there should
be periodic prayer meetings to bolster the PCU.
The Rev. Jones hosted the first of
these ‘PCU Lunch and Pray’ events at
our office on 14 July. He was joined
by five senior pastors and leaders of
Following Britain’s decision to
leave the European Union, the
Bank of England cut interest rates
on 4 August 2016 from an already
record low of 0.5% to 0.25%, to
prevent a post-Brexit recession. The
Governor of the Bank of England also
announced £60 billion worth of
quantitative easing measures, which
further reduces the value of cash.
As a result, one of the UK’s biggest
banks, HSBC, and its subsidiary First
Direct, announced drastic reductions
in the returns offered to savers. From
18 October 2016, it will cut its ISA
rate from 1.4% to 0.9%, while
returns on its bonus saver accounts
are set to fall from 0.75% to 0.4%.
Other banks and building societies
have responded in a similar fashion.
For example, the Coventry Building
Society has slashed its online saver
rate from 1.5% to 1.15% from
1 September 2016. Skipton Building
Society has withdrawn its 2.01%
Other ways Brexit might
affect you
• Holidays and visits are already
costing more because the
pound has dropped in value
against the Euro and the dollar.
• More quantitative easing from
the Bank of England has
lowered the yield on bonds –
this is affecting people who
want to retire, because they
are being offered much
smaller annuities.
• The cost of living is likely to
climb from next year, as
inflation is expected to rise.
• Without a change of
government, austerity cuts are
likely to go beyond 2020.
In July, the Board met for a
weekend of brainstorming on the
theme of ‘Defining the future’.
It was the Board’s annual strategy
meeting, where the Directors review
our performance, refocus our business
and set new targets, with the help of
an expert independent critic.
The meeting focused on refining the
PCU’s values and mapping our
current operations. The Board then
explored potential future directions,
redefined the PCU for the future, and
drew up a roadmap of the key actions
we would need to complete.
This work feeds into the PCU’s
strategic business plan, which
establishes our objectives over a
three-year period. We are now setting
out our direction for 2018-2021.
