Editor's Notes
I have a secretI have been holding this secret for a whileThe key ingredient/uniqueness of early intervention in psychosisSadly the man who coined the theory behind it died and can’t be with us today. But he did live to 97 years.
His name was ViktorHe wrote about his discovery of choiceEven when all choice appears to be diminishedWhen it seems like you have nothing left.
You still have a choice in how you react. This is what Early Intervention was built upon 10 years and still drives the paradigm today.A choice to prematurely accept defeat or to fight for better outcomes.
Dragged around by the collar by whatever is happening. Early intervention proactive in nature – most services wait to react, early intervention anticipates and tries to influence outcomes. But we are all passive and reactive at some point.Sometimes it serves us well.80:20 rule. Better outcomes come from 80% proactivity and 20% passivity/reactivity rather than the other way round.
Change is coming Change is already hereWhat part we play in it is up to us.
Its hard to be proactive given the many problems we are facing in health care today.Just when one issue seems resolved, another emerges No quick fixes – but we still have our part to play.
Current reforms to NHS leave too many uncertainty for the future.Local leaders (and anyone can be a leader) need to set a vision so others follow.
The speakers today hope to add to your existing expertise and experience. They want to connect with you for the purpose of getting things done and done well.
To walk out of today’s conference feeling like & able to make changes.
Ultimately, my wish for you today is that you walk out those doors feeling like you have more choices to tackle your struggles.
For that reason, we hope you are able to contribute to todays ideas by noting down your thoughtsWe will collate your thoughts & ideas at the end of the day and send these to you to implement in your practice areas & lives.
