Description:
An EMS will be a tool that will be used to monitor exceptions at a house bill and master bill level, track
shipments at a master bill level, and proactively report all exceptions enabling users to identify root cause,
presenting or take corrective action and recommending process improvements.
A key enabler for the Exception Management System is a web based IT system to track key logistical
events captured during transportation related processes, and to measure timing of each event against
expected benchmarks. As a shipment progresses through its life, actual event dates and times are
compared to expected dates and times. If an activity does not occur in the expected time frame, an
exception notice or alert needs to be issued. These milestones may not occur in a “sequenced” order,
meaning that an exception may occur but another milestone may bring the exception back to “normal” or
put it a new into “exception:” status.
