Herodotus
The first travel writer

accounts indicate that he
travelled in Egypt in
association with
Athenians, probably some
time after 454 BC or
possibly earlier, after an
Athenian fleet had
assisted the uprising
against Persian rule in
460–454 BC.
4. The Ancient Empire
The era of the great empire from 3,000 BC to
500AD.generated travel. The ancient Persians
,Assyrians and Egyptians travelled in a organized
manner.
During the era of the Greek Empire, tourism
flourished. Festivals and shows ,among them the
Olympic Games which begun in 776 B.C.
6. Dark Ages
Travel during the Dark Times
Massive forests with wild animals and obscure, long roads are
some of the places travelers encounter during the Dark Ages.
Only bravery can overcome the challenges travelers meet in the
road.
The Outsiders
Travelling centuries ago was done by walking or riding a horse.
Transporting was gradual and took months to arrive in the
destination. Nights were spent under the moon beside the road
or in the forests. The daunting scene was even added with tales
of demons and spirits of the forests. Travelers had nothing to do
but to cope up with the situation and let fear pass until the sun
rises.
7. The Middle Ages
The period between the fall of Rome and the
Renaissance is known as the Middle Ages,
approximately between 500 A.D. and 1508 A.D. It is
also known as the ages. The fall of Rome led to the
decline of trade and the economy in general and
decrease in the desire to travel.
8. The Renaissance and the Grand
Tour
It was during this period that young men of the upper
class travelled from Britain on the Grand Tour, a
prescribed route from England through France,
Germany, Austria, Switzerland to Italy which was the
destination.

16. MABUHAY GUIDES
The Mabuhay Guides Training Program was created in
2010 to produce top quality guides and tour leaders
who would present the country in the best light to
travelers, business investors, and tourism partners.
The six-week course consisted of on-site trainings
conducted by trainers from the London Blue Badge. A
Blue Badge is the British national standard guiding
qualification. It is recognized internationally as a
benchmark of excellence.
Lectures were given by respected figures in Philippine
art, culture, history, identity, heritage, architecture,
music, geography, and ecological tourism.

A Person who manages an itinerary on behalf of the
tour operator ensuring the programme is carried out as
described in the tour operator's literature and sold to
the traveller/consumer and who gives local practical
information.

February 21st. an initiative of WFTGA, the International
Tourist Guide Day is held on 21st February each year.
In 1990, Mrs. Titina Loizides, president of the WFTGA was
involved when it was held for the first time, 15 countries
participated. Since then, tourist guides in an ever growing
number of countries have been giving help to their local
communities, conducting tours for disabled persons,
disadvantaged persons, for children, industry partners,
officials and the general public.

countless calluses later, he is still

out of tour guiding. However, the
universe has a seemingly magical
way of leading this Tanjay native,
showing him around as he moved
from being an accredited freelancer
to working with several tour
operators in Cebu by way of
assisting tourist/guest upon arrival
and hotel check-in and conducting
the tour as per guest itinerary.
“I took up Political Science in 1994
at the Silliman University
(Dumaguete City), but I did not
finish the course. I became an
activist,” Balbino “Ka Bino” Pada
Guerrero narrated. “Then I went
back to school and took up BS
Secondary Education with History
as my major in Diaz College (Tanjay
City). After which, an opportunity
plucked me off Negros (Oriental)
and transplanted me here in Cebu.”

identified only as orsalia

conducting a tour on The Ruins
that left the guests in stitches.
Titled “Roger the funny guide of
The Ruins Negros Occidental,”
the video has so far garnered
150,634 hits and 236 comments
as of Aug. 11.
