  2. 2.  A hero (masculine or gender-neutral) or heroine (feminine) (Ancient Greek: ἥρως, hḗrōs) is a person or character who, in the face of danger and adversity or from a position of weakness, displays courage, bravery or self-sacrifice—that is, heroism—for some greater good; a man or woman of distinguished courage or ability, advocate, admired for his/her brave deeds and noble qualities.
  3. 3.  Don Diego de la Viña was an illustrado being born from a Spanish-Chinese parentage. He grew up in Binondo, Manila but went to Basque, Asturias in Spain to earn his Bachelor’s degree in Arts. Upon his return to Manila, he married Apolonia de la Cruz “Tagala” with whom he had four children.  He brought them with him when he settled in Negros. Endowed with a pioneering spirit he searched for a place where he could establish a residence and fulfil his dream to carve out fortune. When he resided in Bagawines, he influenced the way of life of the bukidnons.
  4. 4.  They became civilized and tempered their warring tendencies. He inculcated to the bukidnon the love of work and the idea of religion. He frowned on laziness. In the hacienda that De la Viña established, unemployment was not known.  . His work in the plantation made him physically strong and spiritually active. When his wife died, he remarried Narcisca Geopano an Ilongga from the landed Geopano Clan. He sired three children with his second wife. It was in the last quarter of 1898 when Don Diego de la Viña became involved in the revolution.
  5. 5.  He founded the Town of Vallehermoso  He organized the Heritage March of 1898  Liberator of Dumaguete & Negros from Spanish Rule  Peace and Order  Pioneer in the modernization of the Sugar Industry in Negros
  6. 6.  Demetrio Larena - A Political Hero of Negros Revolution ,Revolutionary, Farmer and former Governor of Negros Oriental (East Negros) .He was the Governor of Negros Oriental from 1901 until 1906. Larena was instrumental in the establishment of Silliman Institute now a University in Dumaguete City.  The Cantonal Republic of Negros was established with Larena as its Presidente from November 27, 1898 until March 4, 1899 when the Negros revolutionaries surrendered to the United States General James Francis Smith. The government lasted for three months and four days. Larena invested public funds to construct schools, encourage enrolment, freedom of religion and increase the literacy rate of his constituents .

  8. 8.  Assistant Provincial Engineer of Negros Oriental , Outbreak of Second World War  the member of the Dumaguete underground movement of Negros Oriental.  Martyr and World War II Hero  The provincial engineer, E. J. Blanco, and his assistant, Jovenal Somoza, made a detailed ground plan of the Dumaguete landing field and installations.

  10. 10.  Eduardo J. Blanco Provincial Engineer of Negros Oriental , the leader of the underground movement of Negros Oriental in 1948 .  One of Dumaguete’s local heroes. He was arrested by the Kempeitai on the charge that he had given plans of the Dumaguete airfield to the guerrilla intelligence agents, which helped in the successful bombing of the airfield by American planes on September 12, 1944. While bound and weighted, he was thrown by the Japanese into the sea off Dumaguete

  12. 12.  Sinco was born in Bais, Negros Oriental, April 5, 1894, obtained a bachelor of arts degree at Silliman University, a bachelor of law degree and later a master's degree at the University of the Philippines.  On February 18, 1958, the Board of Regents of the University of the Philippines elected Dean Vicente G. Sinco of the College of Law, to the Presidency of the University.
  13. 13.  Founded in July 4, 1949 by Dr. Vicente G. Sinco, Foundation University is a private non- profit as well as a non-sectarian institution. The university was born at dawn of the Philippine independence. Asian's first democracy after the World War II.  The college was founded by Dr. Vicente Guzman Sinco, a known educator and legal luminary during his time Sinco envisioned the college to contribute to the overall national program of development.   14. 14.  Vicente G. Sinco was the tenth president of the University of the Philippines. His term lasted from 1958 to 1962.  He was a Philippine Commissioner of Foreign Affairs, and on behalf of the Philippine government, he signed the United Nations Charter
