CONNECTION
13. The Seventh Sense
“Connection—and ever faster, smarter connection—is transforming our lives just as trains
and factories tore into Nietzsche’s age.
As a result, we live in a world that is both terribly exciting and awfully unsettling.”
14. Business Model attributes 21st Century Working
From
Top-down, hierarchical
Financial performance
Sequential thinking, processes
Internal R&D / Policy making
Strategic planning and risk aversion
Hard-wired workforce
Assets and ownership
To
Autonomous, socialised net-working
Transformative purpose
Experimentation, iteration, creativity
Community and crowd, innovation as usual
Emergent, experimental, purpose-led
Flexible, on-demand, lifestyle workers
Leveraged utilities, communal sharing

The Seventh Sense
Networks distribute power - just not always as expected
Networks are complex - complex systems create
Networks are paradoxical - vulnerable & powerful
Networks are controlled by a new caste -
no longer just merchants; soldiers or sages
Networks run through topologies / landscapes
and connected fields
Networks compress time

19. Grasping The Seventh SenseIs seeing how networks and the nature of the
connected age, can FURTHER not ERODE
the things we care most about.

CONNECTIONA 21st Century philosophical approach to networking
Who and what are you connected to and for what purpose?
We are what we’re connected to
How are you mastering your connectivity?
Being aware that devices that give us freedom, also enmesh us.
What are you learning, from whom and importantly, what are you sharing?
Not just content but understanding the power and dynamic of the network that uses that content.

37. I believe
If we designed better work, people would be happier about their work and able to live
more fulfilling lives.
If we create new aspects of work to run alongside existing traditional models, we will
make more progress than trying endless change programmes and restructures.
If we build working methods that allow people to come to life and discover themselves,
their talents and their ambitions in life, we’ll have a more just and contented society.
