- Pritzker Prize jury chairman, J. Carter Brown, commented, “RemKoolhaas is widely respected as one of the most gifted and original talents in world architecture today. The leader of a spectacularly irreverent generation of Dutch architects, his restless mind, conceptual brilliance, and ability to make a building sing have earned him a stellar place in the firmament of contemporary design.”
- Koolhaas is the founding partner of OMA, and of its research-oriented counterpart AMO, currently based in Rotterdam, Netherlands
- In 2005 he co-foundedVolume Magazine together with Mark Wigley and Ole Bouman.
- In 2000 RemKoolhaas won the Pritzker Prize. “It seems fitting that as we begin a new millennium, the jury should choose an architect that seems so in tune with the future,” says Thomas J. Pritzker, president of The Hyatt Foundation, “In fact, Koolhaas has been called a prophet of a new modern architecture.”
- His writing gained him recognition as a visionary early in his career. Delirious New York was reprinted in 1994 under the title RemKoolhaas and the Place of Modern Architecture. The same year, he published S,M,L,XL in collaboration with the Canadian graphic designer Bruce Mau. Described as a novel about architecture, the book combines works produced by Koolhaas's Office for Metropolitan Architecture with photos, plans, fiction, cartoons and random thoughts. The title refers to the way the architect decided to arrange the book: instead of a chronological timeline, it is organized by project size.
- He began his career as a journalist with Haagse Post in The Hague, and later tried his hand at screen writing both in the Netherlands and Hollywood.

- Since 1995, Koolhaas has been a professor at Harvard University. He is leading a student-based research group that is studying different issues affecting the urban condition. The projects include a study of five cities in the Pearl River Delta in China; a study called The Roman System, focusing on the ancient Roman city; Shopping, an analysis of the role of retail consumption in the contemporary city; and a study of the African city, focusing specifically on Lagos, Nigeria. They were later joined by one of Koolhaas's students, ZahaHadid- who would soon go on to achieve success in her own right.

- Escape from the architectural ghetto is one of the major drivers and has always been. Mr. Koolhaas believes in the idea of social progress. The pace of global change leaves him unfazed and optimistic. His work eagerly reforges the broken link between technology and progress. Perhaps as a Dutchman, imprinted with his country's role as an international trading centre, he has fewer problems with global change than might someone of another nationality.
- Seattle Public Library- It is characterized by ideas of fragmentation, an interest in manipulating ideas of a structure's surface or skin, non-rectilinear shapes which serve to distort and dislocate some of the elements of architecture, such as structure and envelope. The finished visual appearance of buildings that exhibit the many deconstructivist "styles" is characterized by a stimulating unpredictability and a controlled chaos.

Was ambitious to redefine the Library as an information store, no longer exclusively dedicated to the book .Although unusual in shape, but the building's required functions dictate what it should look like. - Identification of five platforms each dedicated to a specific cluster. Each platform is a programmatic entity that is architecturally defined and equipped for maximum, dedicated performance. As each platform is designed for a different purpose, they are different in size, density and opacity.
