6. Imaginative ideas should always be supported by data
7. Have an openness towards technology
8. Failures will happen and learn from those mistakes

SUMMARYOF THE CASE:
Case deals with challenges in installing strategic IT solutions in Vermont Teddy Bear.
The company deals with providing pajamas, teddy bears, flowers and other gifts placed
through telephone, mail-order and web
The sales are highly seasonal, generally peaking during Christmas, Valentine’s day and
Mother’s day
Stetzel, the Vice-President of IT at the firm, is responsible for strategic decision to handle
the situation
Strong IT architecture especially required for control process, requesting system
modifications, development and testing
IT architecture at VTB incomplete and change controls minimal
A major problem faced by the architecture is ‘Shadow’ application that were either connected to
middleware or were independent.
Complete current catalog of hardware and shared application required
Approach taken to introduce separate packages of ERP with optimal functionality connected via
middleware
CEO John Gilbert remains unconvinced with Stetzel’s idea and wants to avoid complicated
middleware and incompatible applications by using full featured ERP instead
Gilbert is also interested in introducing new products, cross selling and using CRM, which
Stetzel does not agree with.
Gilbert also interested in promoting e-commerce stability by improving the system
The basic challenge is to decide whether to use slow yielding, costly ERP in face of strong
competition and constrained resources or use the alternative provided by Stetzel to produce
quicker results.

SUMMARYOF THE CASE: Case deals with challenges in installing strategic IT solutions in Vermont Teddy Bear. The company deals with providing pajamas, teddy bears, flowers and other gifts placed through telephone, mail-order and web The sales are highly seasonal, generally peaking during Christmas, Valentine’s day and Mother’s day Stetzel, the Vice-President of IT at the firm, is responsible for strategic decision to handle the situation Strong IT architecture especially required for control process, requesting system modifications, development and testing IT architecture at VTB incomplete and change controls minimal
