Understanding
Reading is a complex “cognitive
process” of decoding symbols in order to
construct or derive meaning . Reading
is a means of language acquisition,
communication and of sharing
information and ideas.
Reading books improve vocabulary.
Books improve our communication
skills.
Learning to read is a sequential
process; each new skill builds on the
mastery of previously learned skills.
The ability to read is a vital skill in
being able to function in today’s society.
3. Readingand
Reflection
It is meant to encourage students to
reflect meta cognitively on what they
have read. It allow the students to
begin to internalize the information by
summarizing it in their own.
Reflection on a book- what you think
about a book- expression of ideas and
perceiving the ideas.
Examples – reflection of sound ,light
and water waves
Add your thoughts and analysis to
what you have understand and
experienced
Illustrate your ideas and possible
practice in future.
4. How to writea
record
Select &Collect the basic information –
Title Author, year, Publisher, editor,
Type, Group of Readers, Wrapper
design and quality of paper.
Summary – key points.
My views- lang., content, theme,
organisation, merit and demerit of the
concept.

Retelling- in one’s own words/ from
different points of view (taking turns in
a smaller group)
Narrating /describing a related account
from one’s life experience.
Discussion of characters and situations.
Writing based on the text.
Eg. summary of a scene, extrapolation
of story,converting a situation in to a
dialogue etc.

Engaging with subject related ref. book
The student teacher should work in
groups divided according to their subjects
with in these groups, pairs of student
teachers would make choice of a specific
topic in their specfic subject area which
they could research from a set of available
reference books.
