2. INRODUCTION:
As a part of our company visit in GITAM INSTITUTE OF MANAGEMENT, we visited Ocean
India Pvt Limited (OIL) which is a joint venture of Brandix Lanka ltd and Ocean Lanka ltd.
OCEAN LANKA LTD, SRILANKA:
Ocean Lanka (Pvt) Ltd is a BOI approved company situated in the Biyagama Export Processing
Zone (BEPZ), of Sri Lanka. It was established in 1994 with ownership shared between Fountain
Set (Holdings) Limited, Brandix Lanka Limited and Hirdaramani Group. The company
incontestably the largest manufacturer of Weft Knitted Fabrics in the island mainly caters to the
needs of a prestigious customer base comprising Victoria s Secret, Tommy Hilfiger, Marks &
Spencer, Nike, Next and Gap etc.
The company product range is of world class standard and the collaboration with the global
textile giant Fountain Set (Holdings) Ltd of Hong Kong has given the company an edge over its
competitors in pioneering development of new textile technology. Its continuous innovations
through research and development, excellent after sale customer service and exceptional
response time in meeting customer needs have already contributed to the tremendous success
that Ocean Lanka has achieved which had made it to triple its production capacity within just
half a decade years of commencement of commercial operations.
The production process of the company is fully backed by the technical and material support of
vertically integrated textile giant Fountain Set (Holdings) limited which has given a cost
advantage to Ocean Lanka enabling it to offer high quality knitted fabric at extremely
competitive prices.

3. Ocean India Private Ltd (OIL) is a joint venture between Brandix Lanka Ltd and Ocean Lanka
Ltd, one of the largest manufacturers of knit fabric in Sri Lanka and a subsidiary of Fountain Set,
the largest circular knitted fabric manufacturer in the world. Ocean Lanka, as a joint venture
partner will provide the technical expertise to establish OIL operationally and commercial
production was commenced in the first quarter of 2009. The target customer/market segment is
the apparel manufacturing base within the Brandix India Apparel City (BIAC) in India and other
apparel manufacturing bases in India, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka.
The company is located in BIAC on a 75 acre plot of land. Initially, it will had a production
capacity of 20,000 lbs/day. However, infrastructure is in place to increase this to 100,000 lbs/day
to accommodate increasing market demand in the future. The plant itself is under construction
with 50% of the work completed to date. It spread over 400,000 sq.ft. and employed a total labor
force of approximately 300 at a production capacity of 60,000 lbs/day. Knitting test operations
commenced on December 2008.
MISSION STATEMENT:
To be the preferred supplier of Weft Knitted Fabric in the region, and to have a highly motivated
effective & efficient work force to ensure that we surpass all expectations of our customers with
the best value & service; thereby providing optimum returns to society and the environment.
PROCESS:
Ocean India Ltd plant is the place where the raw material yarn, which is imported from Taiwan
will be processed and converted to finished product a complete clothes. There are also machinery
and tools for dying and printing the ordered designs on the cloth.
Now the finished product will be sent to market by using Logistics and Supply Chain
management. They use big trucks for shipping large orders and small tempos for shipping small
orders to nearby places.
4. Only 10% of the production will be marketed in India and the rest will be marketed in other
countries like Sri Lanka, US and Hongkong. The major market for this product is Sri Lanka and
these products have high demand there.
OBSERVATIONS:
The process of preparing the cloth from yarn involves various steps which uses heavy machinery
and complex steps.
Safety measures are followed when dealing with the machinery.
They are providing canteen facility to the workers.
They are also providing cab facility to benefit those employees coming from Gajuwaka and other
nearby villages.
To deal with industrial disputes the management said they support trade unions and try to have a
co-ordination among management, trade unions and individual workers.
The work environment is very much impressive.
CONCLUSION:
Ocean India Pvt ltd(OIL) is a joint venture of Brandix Lanka ltd and Ocean Lanka ltd. This
manufacturing concern is an upcoming and successful organization that is present in
Visakhapatnam, providing employment opportunities to the citizens and ensuring the growth of
society and nation.
