  2. 2. BACKGROUND As the Apple Watch Series 3 is launched, the global market is arguably now entering the third year of ‘serious’ Smart Watches being available in the market. Android also recently released the latest version of their wearables operating system, Android Wear 2.0. Sales number of these wearables seem to be not very exciting though, though arguably they’re not too devastating. If not, logically they would not be selling smart watches anymore, when in fact manufacturers still do.
  3. 3. • Despite non-bombastic sales number, a number of luxury traditional watch brands such as Fossil and Tag Heuer are beginning to produce smart watches themselves. How the market respond to these luxury brands are still up to the jury, but some market sales survey in particular from IDC indicate that they are selling in not-insignificant numbers. • Fitness functions are marketed rather heavily by most smart watch & wearables manufacturers, and so we also seek to examine how the market responds to health-tracking functions as well.
  4. 4. This survey seeks to examine the Indonesian consumer market response to smart watches, fitness bands, and other wearables, as per 2017. Survey conducted by DailySocial.id in cooperation with Jakpat mobile survey platform. Survey panel consists of 1035 respondents sampled proportionally from smartphone users throughout Indonesia.

  7. 7. OWNERSHIP OF SMARTWATCHES & FITNESS BANDS Q1: Do you currently/have you ever owned a fitness band? Q2: Do you currently/ have you ever owned a smart watch? Q3: Do you currently/have you ever owned a hybrid smart watch or smart analogue watch?
  8. 8. • Only 35.33% of respondents report having ever owned a Fitness band, 43.15% a smart watch, and 29.83% a hybrid smart watch. • Indonesian consumers are generally familiar with smart watches & fitness bands, but less than half the population have ever purchased them.
