10. WordPress Hosting
Worst:
• GoDaddy - $3.99
• 1 & 1 – $0.99
• Site5 - $4.99
• Hostgator - $5.95
Best
• WP Engine - $29
• Pagely - $299
• Liquid Web - $59 for VPS - $119
managed WP
• Siteground - $3.95 – VPS $80
• A2 Hosting - $3.92
Cheapest option of all is shared hosting.
VPS is also low cost. It allows you to have
control of your shared hosting.
Managed hosting is ideal but can be
costly.
11. Content Delivery Network (CDN)
• MaxCDN – Starts at $9 per month
• Amazon Cloudfront – 12 months
free
• Cloudflare – Free for personal
websites and blogs
• Microsoft AZURE – Pay per use
A CDN is a collection of servers located
around the world. When a browser loads
static content, the request is
automatically routed to the server
geographically closest to the browser.
A CDN helps the static content on your
site (images, CSS, Javascript) load much
more quickly.
12. Themes
• Avoid free themes – they are not
updated regularly, no support,
coding stinks
• Read reviews
• Must have great support
• Regularly updated
• Install on dev site and test the
speed of the theme
• StudioPress
• WooThemes
• ThemeForest
There are many themes out there that are
dated and slow performing. Choose
wisely.
A fast WordPress theme is an essential
element for your website, and especially
if you’re running it for any business
purpose.
13. DataBase Optimization
• Old post
• Revisions
• Spammed and unapproved comments
• Duplicate or orphaned metadata, etc.
To fix this and improve query time,
you can use plugins like:
• WP Sweep
• WP-Optimize
• WP-DB Manager
• WP Rocket
WordPress database can get clogged
14. Caching
• Caching refers to the process of creating static versions of your
content, and serving that to visitors . Static pages render quickly in
browsers. This leads to faster performance of your website.
• Install a caching plugin like WP Super Cache or WP Total Cache. It
drastically improves page loading speed by caching different
elements of your website.
15. Image Optimization
Plugins
• WP Smush
• EWWW Image Optimizer
Desktop Tools
• PNGGauntlet – PC
• ImageOptim – Mac
Online Software
• https://tinypng.com/
The larger the size of the images on your
website, the more time it will take to load.
The solution is to compress and optimize
images to reduce their file size to free up page
loading speed.
Optimizing your images not only helps your
WordPress site load faster, but can also boost
your SEO.
16. Google AMP
AMP stands for Accelerated Mobile Pages,
a Google-backed project designed as an open
standard for any publisher to have pages load
quickly on mobile devices.
• Faster loading page for mobile users
• Improved search engine rankings
• Increased visibility for Publishers

19. Tips & Tricks
• Minify Your Websites CSS, HTML & Javascript – Remove any unnecessary
characters that are not required for the code to execute. Minifying your
code speeds up your page loading.

• Avoid Bloated Themes - Use a theme that only contains the features you
actually need
• Videos - Host videos offsite to reduce bandwidth & server load speed. Use
YouTube, Vimeo or host for free at https://wistia.com
• Audio – Use Audacity as a free way to optimize web audio files. 128 - 64kbr
is a good balance between quality & performance.
• Trackback & Pingbacks - Disabling trackbacks and pingbacks removes the
need for your website to check and execute this function, which helps to
increase performance.
