famous for my
colorful stained
glass artworks.

8. What is
stained glass?

9. Stained glass
is made when
artists put pieces
of colorful glass
between metal
strips.

10. Artists draw
a design…

11. …then they find
the perfect piece
of glass and cut it
into a shape for
their design…

12. … and they hold
all the pieces of
glass in place
with lead strips.

13. (Artists today
sometimes use other
types of metal because
lead is poisonous.)

14. Artists have
been making
stained glass for
hundreds of
years.

15. Much OLD
stained glass can
be seen in
churches…

19. But, I wanted to
make stained
glass my OWN
way.

stained glass to
use LOTS of
different colors
and textures.

was called
Art Nouveau.

means “New Art”
in French.

uses lots of
curvy lines and
natural things like
trees & flowers.

make your OWN

28. With pencil, make
a design or
“nature picture”
using shapes and
lines.

29. Color your design
with crayons to
help plan which
colors you’ll be
adding later.

31. Place a clear
transparency over
your design.

32. Trace your design
using inky glue,
so it looks like
lead.

34. Add tissue paper
with watery glue,
to the spaces
between your
lead lines.

35. When the gluey
tissue dries, peel
it off, and it will
look just like
stained glass.

37. 1. Draw a nature design
on your circle sheet and color
it with crayons.
2. Place a transparency
on your paper so that
you can trace
your design.
3. Add colorful tissue paper
with watery glue to make a
stained glass effect.
