What isReiki?
• A form of spiritual healing and spiritual practice used
for the treatment of physical, emotional, mental, and
spiritual diseases
• Practitioners use a technique similar to the laying on of
hands, in which it is claimed to channel for energy
("Ki") guided by a universal spirit or spiritual nature
("Rei") — flowing through palms to heal a person
wherever they may need healing
Reiki is two Japanese words, Rei and Ki
(pronounced “Ray” and “Key”)
Rei means Universal, Ki means Energy
Therefore, Reiki means Universal Energy, the Vital
Force that permeates the whole universe
Synonyms of Ki
– Chi in China
– Prana in India
– Ka in Egypt
– Holy Ghost in Bible
– Orgon by Dr Reich
– Pneuma in Greek….

"Usui did not see himself as a teacher.
He made no claims for what he practiced.
Others approached him and asked to learn, that
is how he was free to do as he did.”
Dr. Mikao Usui born on the 15th of August 1865 in the
village of Taniai (now called Miyama cho) in the Yamagata
county of the Gifu Prefecture in Japan.
He was a Buddhist Priest and spiritualist. Being a descendent
of the famous samurai warlord Toshitane Chiba, his family
Practiced martial arts, thus he too studied Aiki Jutsu. Not
only being Buddhist, he was also influenced by his martial
arts training, Shinto, Taoism, and Shugendo. In the early
1920’s he did a 21 day practice called ‘kushu shinren’ on Mt.
Kurama Yama and it was during this process it is said he
developed the Reiki system.
History of Reiki
Thus, Reiki was born, but it wasn’t really called ‘Reiki’ originally, Reiki
was just a term Dr. Usui used. What Usui Mikao taught was called 'Usui do' - 'the
way of Usui', and what he practiced on people would most likely have been
called 'Usui teate'- meaning 'hands-on'.
Afterward he opened a clinic/school called the Gakkai and helped and
healed many of the poor. He even aided Earthquake victims in 1923 and because
of this word spread of his abilities as a healer. He was even awarded the Kun San
To award by the Japanese government for his work with the earthquake victims.
He died of a stroke in 1926 at the age of 62. He had two children with his wife
Sadako Suzuki, Fuji and Toshiko. After his death, Mr. J. Ushida took over as
president of the Usui Reiki Ryoho Gakkai and erected a memorial stone at his
grave site.
Contrary to versions of the Reiki mythos, Chujiro Hayashi was not Dr.
Usui’s successor to his school, but was a student of Usui’s and opened up a Reiki
clinic in Tokyo and along came a woman named Hawayo Takata…
History of Reiki
Hawayo Takata was visiting Japan from Hawaii to
attend her sister’s funeral and had just been recently
diagnosed with a series of health issues. Doctors had
advised her she needed surgery to resolve them, but she had
heard of Dr. Hayashi’s clinic and decided to get treated there
instead. Over time she switched from patient to student and
in 1938 she was initiated as a Master. She then went back to
Hawaii and set up her own Reiki clinic with Dr. Hayashi and
his daughter’s help. However, she didn’t initiate other
Masters until 1970.
From here she did several curious things in that she
charged $10,000 for Master’s training, she didn’t allow her
students to take notes or tape her as they had to memorize
everything. Also after Dr. Hayashi died, she stated she was
the only Reiki Master left in the world. She died in 1980. No
one really knows why she did these things, but for a long
time she was the West’s only source of information about
Reiki and almost every Master from the West can trace their
lineage back to her.
History of Reiki
Principles of Reiki
Just for today, do not worry.
Just for today, do not anger.
Honor your parents, teachers,
and elders.
Earn your living honestly.
Show gratitude to everything.
Dr. Mikao Usui
How ReikiWorks
• Inside every human
being there is a subtle
system of channels
(nadis/meridians) and
centers of energy
(chakras) which look
after our physical,
intellectual, emotional
and spiritual being
• Reiki flows through
this system
• Ida/Pingla/Sushumna
are main Nadis for
flow of Reiki
( ura)
• All beings are given a spark of Ki
at birth, which is stored in them
for life
• ThisKi energy has its own force
field, known as Aura, which has
colors
• Along spine there are seven energy
transformers in form of vortices
known as Chakra
• Flow of Reiki removes blocks
and balances Chakras and
increases Ki
• Chakras impact Endocrine
glands and which results in
healing

Attunement
Everyone is born with Reiki energy but cannot use it
consciously at will.
Attunement (Empowerment) is a process, which
activates the ability to transmit and use Reiki with
your own will at any time.
ReikiAttunement
• Reiki in not taught but is transferred by a Reiki Master during an
attunement process
• This Process opens the crown, heart and palm chakras and creates a
special link with Reiki source
• The person receiving attunements become a Reiki Channel for one
lifetime
• Reiki energy has intelligence of its own and flows automatically based
on the requirement of the person receiving Reiki
1st LevelAttunement
• First Degree introduces the learner to energy
healing as well as Reiki history and practice.
• First Degree teaches hand positions to allow Reiki to
flow for self-healing and for healing others.
• One can then heal one’s self, family, friends, as well
as pets, plants and trees, even food!
After Attunement
• The Reiki Master normally requests feed-back after an
attunement
• Many people report seeing colors, smelling pleasant
fragrances, hearing sounds, or experiencing calm.
• It is also OK not to feel anything!
(However, this may cause the candidate to wrongly feel
that the attunement has not taken place.)
AfterAttunement
• Undertake a self-cleansing and self-healing for a
period of at least 3 weeks, after each attunement
• This is a very important step for your own benefit
and strongly advised to do it
• DO NOT rush through attunements
ReikiHealing
IsReikiapanacea?
• As you learn Reiki, you will come across many
success stories, some really incredible. It is quite
probable that all of them are true (the people who share
them are absolutely sincere).
• You will also learn that Reiki can cure health
problems, past, present, future, relationships,
monetary problems, career problems.
ReikiTreatments
• Any one can receive Reiki
• To give Reiki, a practitioner must be “attuned” to
Reiki energy by a Reiki Master
• Any one with a sincere desire can learn Reiki by
receiving attunements
“Healing touch” is similar to Reiki but does not include formal
attunements and doesn’t work over distances and time.
What isaReiki
SessionLike?
• Lasts approximately 60 - 90 minutes; shorter sessions
possible
• Comfortable environment created: temperature, music,
pillows, quiet location, dim lights
• Treatment done on regular healing table
• Hands-on treatment
• Clothes-on treatment
• Enhances treatment if client has intent to heal, accepts
responsibility for own healing, and has some trust in the
Reiki process
• Practitioner starts with a prayer
• Connects with client energetically through Reiki
• Prescribe sequence of hand placement, head-to-
toe, on front, and then back
• Each hand placement last about 3-5 minutes
• Practitioner varies time according to need
• May reveal cause of energy blockages
• Final sweep of aura
• Water for client, adjusts to changes

Hand Positions
You can use Reiki energy to heal yourself and others using these hand positions
Hand Positions
Hand Positions
Hand Positions
First Degree –
By laying hands on
various positions on
body covering all
chakras and related
organs
Hand Positions
After the last position (the bottoms of the feet) one then “smoothen” the
energy by making a wiping motion above the patient from the head to the feet.
Then help the person slowly get up after their healing.
Code of Ethics
The Registered Practitioner (RP) agrees to:
1. Abide by a vow of confidentiality. Any information that is discussed within
the context of a Reiki session is confidential between the client and practitioner.
2. Provide a safe and comfortable area for sessions or classes and work to
provide an empowering and supportive environment for clients and students.
3. Always treat clients and students with the utmost respect and honor.
4. Have a pure and clear intention to offer your services for the highest healing
good of the client and highest potential of the student.
5. Provide a brief oral or written description of what happens during a session
and what to expect before a client’s initial session. Provide a clear written
description of subjects to be taught during each level of Reiki prior to class and
list what the student will be able to do after taking the class.
6. Be respectful of all others’ Reiki views and paths.
7. Educate clients/students on the value of Reiki and explain that sessions do
not guarantee a cure, nor are they a substitute for qualified medical or
professional care. Reiki is one part of an integrative healing or wellness
program.
Code of Ethics
8. Suggest a consultation or referral for clients to qualified licensed professionals (medical
doctor, licensed therapist, etc.) when appropriate.
9. Never diagnose or prescribe. Never suggest that the client/student change prescribed
treatment or interfere with the treatment of a licensed health care provider.
10. Be sensitive to the boundary needs of individual clients and students.
11. Never ask clients to disrobe (unless in the context of a licensed massage therapy session
at the client’s option). Do not touch the genital area or breasts. Practice hands-off healing of
these areas if treatment is needed.
12. Be working to create harmony and friendly cooperation between Reiki Practitioners/
Master Teachers in the community and represent the IARP in a most professional manner.
13. Act as a beacon in your community by doing the best job possible.
14. Work to empower your students to heal themselves and to encourage and assist them in
the development of their work with Reiki or their Reiki practices.
15. Be actively working on your own healing so as to embody and fully express the essence
of Reiki in everything that you do.

What isReiki? • A form of spiritual healing and spiritual practice used for the treatment of physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual diseases • Practitioners use a technique similar to the laying on of hands, in which it is claimed to channel for energy ("Ki") guided by a universal spirit or spiritual nature ("Rei") — flowing through palms to heal a person wherever they may need healing
  • 5. Reiki is two Japanese words, Rei and Ki (pronounced “Ray” and “Key”) Rei means Universal, Ki means Energy Therefore, Reiki means Universal Energy, the Vital Force that permeates the whole universe Synonyms of Ki – Chi in China – Prana in India – Ka in Egypt – Holy Ghost in Bible – Orgon by Dr Reich – Pneuma in Greek…. What isReiki?

  • 14. "Usui did not see himself as a teacher. He made no claims for what he practiced. Others approached him and asked to learn, that is how he was free to do as he did.” Dr. Mikao Usui born on the 15th of August 1865 in the village of Taniai (now called Miyama cho) in the Yamagata county of the Gifu Prefecture in Japan. He was a Buddhist Priest and spiritualist. Being a descendent of the famous samurai warlord Toshitane Chiba, his family Practiced martial arts, thus he too studied Aiki Jutsu. Not only being Buddhist, he was also influenced by his martial arts training, Shinto, Taoism, and Shugendo. In the early 1920’s he did a 21 day practice called ‘kushu shinren’ on Mt. Kurama Yama and it was during this process it is said he developed the Reiki system. History of Reiki
  • 15. Thus, Reiki was born, but it wasn’t really called ‘Reiki’ originally, Reiki was just a term Dr. Usui used. What Usui Mikao taught was called 'Usui do' - 'the way of Usui', and what he practiced on people would most likely have been called 'Usui teate'- meaning 'hands-on'. Afterward he opened a clinic/school called the Gakkai and helped and healed many of the poor. He even aided Earthquake victims in 1923 and because of this word spread of his abilities as a healer. He was even awarded the Kun San To award by the Japanese government for his work with the earthquake victims. He died of a stroke in 1926 at the age of 62. He had two children with his wife Sadako Suzuki, Fuji and Toshiko. After his death, Mr. J. Ushida took over as president of the Usui Reiki Ryoho Gakkai and erected a memorial stone at his grave site. Contrary to versions of the Reiki mythos, Chujiro Hayashi was not Dr. Usui’s successor to his school, but was a student of Usui’s and opened up a Reiki clinic in Tokyo and along came a woman named Hawayo Takata… History of Reiki
  • 16. Hawayo Takata was visiting Japan from Hawaii to attend her sister’s funeral and had just been recently diagnosed with a series of health issues. Doctors had advised her she needed surgery to resolve them, but she had heard of Dr. Hayashi’s clinic and decided to get treated there instead. Over time she switched from patient to student and in 1938 she was initiated as a Master. She then went back to Hawaii and set up her own Reiki clinic with Dr. Hayashi and his daughter’s help. However, she didn’t initiate other Masters until 1970. From here she did several curious things in that she charged $10,000 for Master’s training, she didn’t allow her students to take notes or tape her as they had to memorize everything. Also after Dr. Hayashi died, she stated she was the only Reiki Master left in the world. She died in 1980. No one really knows why she did these things, but for a long time she was the West’s only source of information about Reiki and almost every Master from the West can trace their lineage back to her. History of Reiki
  • 17. Principles of Reiki Just for today, do not worry. Just for today, do not anger. Honor your parents, teachers, and elders. Earn your living honestly. Show gratitude to everything. Dr. Mikao Usui
  • 18. How ReikiWorks • Inside every human being there is a subtle system of channels (nadis/meridians) and centers of energy (chakras) which look after our physical, intellectual, emotional and spiritual being • Reiki flows through this system • Ida/Pingla/Sushumna are main Nadis for flow of Reiki ( ura)
  • 19. • All beings are given a spark of Ki at birth, which is stored in them for life • ThisKi energy has its own force field, known as Aura, which has colors • Along spine there are seven energy transformers in form of vortices known as Chakra • Flow of Reiki removes blocks and balances Chakras and increases Ki • Chakras impact Endocrine glands and which results in healing How ReikiWorks

  • 30. Level 1 A First Degree healer has to place hands on the body of the recipient. This is the first step towards using the unlimited and wonderful healing powers of Reiki for treating oneself, others and even plants and animals. The student is taught healing by hands-on method and is given attunements for this level. Reiki Levels
  • 31. Level 2 Heals Body, Emotions/Situations, Soul Three Reiki symbols, which are secret and sacred as well. Healer is enabled to send the energy and perform the healing from any distance. Clearing anxiety, depression and phobias. Manifestation to achieve your goals in life. Meditations. Increase your spiritual abilities. Creation of congenial atmosphere at work places and improvement of working efficiency. Treating psychological problems. Reiki Levels
  • 32. Reiki Levels Level-3 Level-3A (Polished well with enhanced healing ability) Reiki Master Symbol is taught in this level enabling the Personal development. Level-3B-The Teacher Level As the meaning goes, this is a teaching level. It is not required for healing and is only for those who want to become Reiki Teachers and want to teach Reiki to others.
  • 33. Reiki Levels • First Degree – for self and others proximity healing • Second Degree – Distance Healing • Third Degree (3A) – Master Healer • Fourth Degree (3B) – Master/Teacher • Fifth Degree – Grand Master
  • 34. Sensing Reiki Some fall asleep Some warmth, cold or a tingling sensation from the Reiki energy Gurgling and sounds from stomach Most experience a reduction in pain Some more sensitive people may even have spiritual or visual experience Every session given to the patient ultimately gives a session to healer too
  • 35. What CanReiki Help UsDo? • Senseenergy “blockages” • Clearanacupoint • Clearameridian • Clearachakra • Clearthe aura • Speedup healing • Helpcalm, relax, reducepain • Non-invasivehelp to bodyinternals • Work on anorganor gland
  • 36. • 37. Attunement Everyone is born with Reiki energy but cannot use it consciously at will. Attunement (Empowerment) is a process, which activates the ability to transmit and use Reiki with your own will at any time.
  • 38. ReikiAttunement • Reiki in not taught but is transferred by a Reiki Master during an attunement process • This Process opens the crown, heart and palm chakras and creates a special link with Reiki source • The person receiving attunements become a Reiki Channel for one lifetime • Reiki energy has intelligence of its own and flows automatically based on the requirement of the person receiving Reiki
  • 39. 1st LevelAttunement • First Degree introduces the learner to energy healing as well as Reiki history and practice. • First Degree teaches hand positions to allow Reiki to flow for self-healing and for healing others. • One can then heal one’s self, family, friends, as well as pets, plants and trees, even food!
  • 40. After Attunement • The Reiki Master normally requests feed-back after an attunement • Many people report seeing colors, smelling pleasant fragrances, hearing sounds, or experiencing calm. • It is also OK not to feel anything! (However, this may cause the candidate to wrongly feel that the attunement has not taken place.)
  • 41. AfterAttunement • Undertake a self-cleansing and self-healing for a period of at least 3 weeks, after each attunement • This is a very important step for your own benefit and strongly advised to do it • DO NOT rush through attunements
  • 43. IsReikiapanacea? • As you learn Reiki, you will come across many success stories, some really incredible. It is quite probable that all of them are true (the people who share them are absolutely sincere). • You will also learn that Reiki can cure health problems, past, present, future, relationships, monetary problems, career problems.
  • 44. ReikiTreatments • Any one can receive Reiki • To give Reiki, a practitioner must be “attuned” to Reiki energy by a Reiki Master • Any one with a sincere desire can learn Reiki by receiving attunements “Healing touch” is similar to Reiki but does not include formal attunements and doesn’t work over distances and time.
  • 45. What isaReiki SessionLike? • Lasts approximately 60 - 90 minutes; shorter sessions possible • Comfortable environment created: temperature, music, pillows, quiet location, dim lights • Treatment done on regular healing table • Hands-on treatment • Clothes-on treatment • Enhances treatment if client has intent to heal, accepts responsibility for own healing, and has some trust in the Reiki process
  • 46. • Practitioner starts with a prayer • Connects with client energetically through Reiki • Prescribe sequence of hand placement, head-to- toe, on front, and then back • Each hand placement last about 3-5 minutes • Practitioner varies time according to need • May reveal cause of energy blockages • Final sweep of aura • Water for client, adjusts to changes What isaReiki SessionLike?
  • 48. Hand Positions You can use Reiki energy to heal yourself and others using these hand positions
  • 52. First Degree – By laying hands on various positions on body covering all chakras and related organs Hand Positions After the last position (the bottoms of the feet) one then “smoothen” the energy by making a wiping motion above the patient from the head to the feet. Then help the person slowly get up after their healing.
  • 53. Code of Ethics The Registered Practitioner (RP) agrees to: 1. Abide by a vow of confidentiality. Any information that is discussed within the context of a Reiki session is confidential between the client and practitioner. 2. Provide a safe and comfortable area for sessions or classes and work to provide an empowering and supportive environment for clients and students. 3. Always treat clients and students with the utmost respect and honor. 4. Have a pure and clear intention to offer your services for the highest healing good of the client and highest potential of the student. 5. Provide a brief oral or written description of what happens during a session and what to expect before a client’s initial session. Provide a clear written description of subjects to be taught during each level of Reiki prior to class and list what the student will be able to do after taking the class. 6. Be respectful of all others’ Reiki views and paths. 7. Educate clients/students on the value of Reiki and explain that sessions do not guarantee a cure, nor are they a substitute for qualified medical or professional care. Reiki is one part of an integrative healing or wellness program.
  • 54. Code of Ethics 8. Suggest a consultation or referral for clients to qualified licensed professionals (medical doctor, licensed therapist, etc.) when appropriate. 9. Never diagnose or prescribe. Never suggest that the client/student change prescribed treatment or interfere with the treatment of a licensed health care provider. 10. Be sensitive to the boundary needs of individual clients and students. 11. Never ask clients to disrobe (unless in the context of a licensed massage therapy session at the client’s option). Do not touch the genital area or breasts. Practice hands-off healing of these areas if treatment is needed. 12. Be working to create harmony and friendly cooperation between Reiki Practitioners/ Master Teachers in the community and represent the IARP in a most professional manner. 13. Act as a beacon in your community by doing the best job possible. 14. Work to empower your students to heal themselves and to encourage and assist them in the development of their work with Reiki or their Reiki practices. 15. Be actively working on your own healing so as to embody and fully express the essence of Reiki in everything that you do.
