Today, public radio is playing an important role in strengthening democracy in Ukraine. Seven members of the Hromadske Radio team visited New York City and Washington, DC to have a conversation about media in Ukraine. Hromadske Radio is an NGO founded by a group of professional broadcasting journalists who came together in 2013 to launch an independent public radio for the Ukrainian audience. Their tagline is Listen.Think. Hromadske Radio now has a team of over 50 who produce daily live shows and podcasts that are heard throughout Ukraine. They are funded by grants from international organizations, local membership drives in Ukraine, and a US-based crowdfunding campaign. All of them are professionals; many work as volunteers.
