Eligibility Criterion Assessment & Accreditation
• Higher Education Institution (HEI), which is in existence
for six years or has a record of at least two passed-out
batches.
• Provided the College is affiliated to a University
recognized by UGC for the purposes of affiliation.
(Constituent college of a Private and Deemed-to-be University is considered as
the constituent unit of the University and thus will not be considered for A & A
independently. Such constituent college needs to come along with the University)
• College received the status of Autonomy by UGC.

Eligibility Criterion Assessment & Accreditation …..
• Provided the college / institution not affiliated to a University is
offering programs recognized by Statutory Professional
Regulatory Councils and has been recognized by Association
of Indian Universities (AIU) or other such Government
agencies concerned, as equivalent to a degree program of a
University.
• The NAAC accreditation does not cover distance education units of HEI
and off-shore campuses.
• The institution intending to apply for Assessment and Accreditation by
NAAC must upload the information on All India Survey on Higher Education
(AISHE) portal. AISHE code (reference number) is one of the requirements
for Registration.

Re-accreditation or Subsequent Cycles
(Cycle 2, Cycle 3, Cycle 4….)
• Institutions, which would like to make an improvement in
the accredited status, may apply for Re-assessment,
after a minimum of one year and before three years of
accreditation.
• Institutions opting for Subsequent Cycles (Cycle 2, 3,
4….) of Accreditation can submit the Institutional
Information for Quality Assessment (IIQA), beginning of
the last quarter of the validity period.

Re-accreditation or Subsequent Cycles …..
For Cycles 2, Cycle 3, Cycle 4….. the following are essential :
• IQAC to be functional ;
• Timely submission of AQARs every year ;
• Institutions to submit IIQA, six months before the expiry
of the accreditation status ; while
• Other steps remain the same as first cycle.

• Institutions, seeking improvement in the accredited status, may
volunteer for re-assessment, after a minimum of 01 year or before
03 years of accreditation.
• The current procedures, methodology and the manual for A & A is
will be same.
• However, the institution shall make specific responses based on
the recommendations made by peer team in the previous
accreditation report, as well as the specific quality improvements
made by the institution in the intervening period.
• The fee structure and other procedures would be the same with the
exception that the Institutions that volunteer for re-assessment will
not be eligible for fee waiver and reimbursement of accreditation
expenses.
Reassessment

Extension of validity period of NAAC accreditation from five years to
seven years may be given to those institutions which have
concurrently obtained highest grade* for two cycles and again obtains
highest grade in the third cycle also.
*The institutions graded with A++ and A+ (3.51 and above out of 4)
would be considered as the highest accreditation.
In the case of institutions which have or have NOT applied for
reaccreditation within the stipulated period of six months before the
expiry of accreditation, the gap period between two consecutive
accreditation will be condoned, up to a maximum of one year.

Process of Assessment & Accreditation
The process broadly consists of :
• Online submission of Institutional Information for
Quality Assessment (IIQA) and Self-Study Report
(SSR) ;
• Data Validation and Verification (DVV) by NAAC ;
• Student Satisfaction Survey (SSS) by NAAC ;
• Peer Team Visit ; and
• Institutional Grading.

The purpose of the IIQA process is:
• To ascertain the eligibility of the institution for
comprehensive assessment and accreditation by
NAAC.
• To ensure that the applicant institutions fulfils
statutory requirements of agencies which govern it.
Why is there an IIQA process?

New Fee Structure (w.e.f. March 21, 2018)
IIQA Fee Rs. 25,000/- + GST 18% (Non-refundable)*
• In case of rejection of IIQA application, HEIs may resubmit
IIQA applications for maximum of three attempts without IIQA
fees, including the rejection attempt, within the period of a
year.

Assessment & Accreditation (A & A) Fee …..

After filling up the SSR, it should be submitted on the
NAAC portal. The HEI will receive an auto generated
link/ID of SSR on their registered email ID. Then, the
same SSR in PDF format should be uploaded on the
college/university website.

NAAC will :
Go through the Self-Study Report through an online
assessment mechanism ;
Validate & verify the Quantitative metrics (Qnm) in the SSR ;
If institution clears the Pre-qualifier score of 30%, the Student
Satisfaction Survey will be administered and the Peer Team
Visit conducted.
If there is any discrepancy / factual error, then a Deviation
Report is sent to the institution seeking further clarifications.
NAAC Feedback

The institution should edit the information and respond
to NAAC within 7 days ;
Subsequently, NAAC will again check the resubmitted
data. Depending on the extent of deviation, will inform
the institution of any of the following :
 Dates of the Peer Team Visit ;
 Deferring of the Peer Team Visit ; or
 Debarring the institution from having a Peer Team
Visit.

The institution has to pay in advance, logistic expenses
for arrangement of Peer Team Visit :
• for Colleges Rs.150,000 + GST 18%
• for Universities & Professional Institution Rs.300,000
+ GST 18%
If the Institution does not take up the accreditation process, the
fees will NOT be returned to the institution. However, the same will
be adjusted when accreditation process is taken up. (Up to a
maximum time limit of one year).
Logistic Fee

• Review of Accreditation (Grievance) Rs. 100,000 +
GST18% as applicable from time to time.
• Institution shall pay TA and Honorarium to Peer
Team Members through NAAC.
• In case of decision by the Appeals committee, the
logistic fee shall be applicable as mention in point 5.

When an institution undergoes the accreditation process
for the first time, it is referred to as cycle 1 and the
consecutive five year periods as cycle 2, 3, etc.
The process in each cycle is similar, except that from
cycle 2, the frame of reference includes the impact of
the last assessment and the consequential quality
improvement as reflected in the AQARs submitted over
the 4 year post- accreditation period.

• On announcement of the A & A outcome, the institution not satisfied
with the accreditation status may submit :
• A letter of intent for appeal along with a request to provide the criterion
wise scores so as to reach NAAC within 30 days from the receipt of the
letter intimating the accreditation status from NAAC.
• The application for Appeal in the format prescribed by NAAC
should reach NAAC within 30 days from the date of receipt of the
criterion wise scores from NAAC.
• The requisite non-refundable fee of Rs. 1,00,000 plus GST @ 18%.
• No correspondence / phone calls will be entertained on the matter till
the appeal is disposed of by the Appeals Committee / final decision
taken by EC of NAAC.
