Step	1:	Sketch	or	Print	a	Template	of	the	5	Building	Blocks	of	the	Total	Happiness	Canvas.		
	
Step	2:	State	Pain	Solving	Ques?on	(PSQ)	in	the	central	diamond	of	the	Total	Happiness	
Canvas.		
The	format	of	the	PSQ	is:		“How	Might	We	Eliminate	Pain	(HMWEP)	of	“X”	…	at/in	“Y”?”	
		
Step	3:	Answer	the	Pain	Solving	QuesKon	(PSQ)	by	repeatedly	going	around	the	4	edges,	
sta?ons,	or	“playing	cards”	of	the	Pain-Plan-Do-Review	(PPDR)	Cycle	or	Diamond.		
At	each	edge,	staKon,	or	playing	card,	a	parKcipant	should	provide	relevant	responses	
before	moving	on	to	the	next	edge,	staBon,	or	playing	card.	All	staKons	are	to	be	covered.	
		
Step	4:	Review,	for	each	round	or	cycle,	whether	or	not	a	par?cipant	has	eliminated	the	
pain	stated	in	the	PSQ.		
	
A	parKcipant	receives	a	small,	medium,	or	large	“diamond”	depending	on	the	extent	(low,	medium,	or	high)	to	
which	(s)he	has	eliminated	the	pain.		
If	it	is	perceived	that	there’s	no	change	to	the	level	of	originally	described	pain,	then	the	parKcipant	does	not	receive	
any	diamond.		
If	the	iniKal	pain	is	considered	to	have	goien	worse,	then	the	parKcipant	receives	a	(small,	medium,	or	large)	“coal.”
