BRIEF HISTORY OF NEPAL
First king of the unified
Nepal
 Nepal had so many small kingdoms before 1768.
 Modern State was formed with the unification of Nepal
 King Prithvi Narayan Shah United Nepal on December 21,
1768.
 Before 2006, Nepal was a kingdom. Onward the country was
declared officially secular by its parliament.
 Now, Nepal is a Federal Democratic Republic.
 In June 2008, Nepal ended its system of Monarchy.

What happened and how is the
country rebuilding?
A disastrous earthquake with a magnitude of 7.8 struck
Nepal on April 25.
. A major aftershock on May 12, magnitude 7.3, killed
an additional 65 people and left another 1,926 injured.
- the epicenter was in between the capital Kathmandu and
the tourist town of Pokhara.
- More than 8,000 people died and 18,000 were injured.
- extensive damage to infrastructure, such as buildings,
historical and cultural monuments, temples, and roads

Many of the country's historic sites were severely damaged, including
temples and monuments

The slow progress of reconstruction.
The country is still rebuilding and aid agencies say millions of people remain homeless.
