Modern BI
Traditional business intelligence
(BI) platforms let IT departments
deliver trusted, interactive
analytic content to business
leaders.
But it takes time to model
the necessary data
structures and semantic
layers.
That frustrates business
people, who are demanding
instant access to data.

Data management solutions for analytics (DMSA) combine traditional, Big Data,
and streaming approaches.
Easier than ever to bring data
together for analysis when
needed.
No need to create data structures in
advance thanks to:
In-memory computing technology –
the SAP HANA platform
Open-source platforms – Apache Hadoop,
Apache Spark, the SAP Vora solution

Data must be accessible
wherever it is stored — even
outside company systems.
But corporate data
systems are complex.
IT-led data integration and
data cleansing initiatives
continue to play an
important role.

Analytics require
constant iteration
and change.
Modern BI is
growing faster.
New insights translate
into new business
approaches that, in turn,
require new analytics.
Why can’t IT departments keep up with the analytic needs of
the business?

Primary goal of data
warehouses and semantic
layers
Direct data access by business people –
bypassing computer languages, even
SQL
Interactive, user-friendly
analysis
Technology limitations restricting what was
possible in terms of interactive, user-friendly
analysis, which tended to restrict self-service
to power users

The redesign of the user interface is gorgeous. I haven't seen anything that
pretty in the BI landscape. I'm also really excited about the possibility of
combining data from multiple sources into a functioning data set, taking it
up essentially another notch to allow my business users to prototype even
faster – in real time.

Will BI tools lead to
corporate chaos?
Will business people
make bad decisions

data?
Will they
misunderstand the
data?
There is no
indication of such
occurrences.
