 As the CEO of Grupo Denim in Torreon, Mexico,
Salomon Juan Marcos Villarreal is responsible for
one of the leading producers of denim in the entire
Western hemisphere. Salomon Juan Marcos
Villarreal employs more than 8,000 people in the
textile industry and produces millions of denim
garments each month.
The fabric known today as denim began as a
knockoff of the expensive Italian fabric known as
serge. French weavers tried repeatedly to mimic the
popular fabric during the 18th century, but came up
short on each attempt.

3. DENIM
 After some time, they developed their own twill
fabric, intermingling indigo-dyed threads with
white to create the highly durable denim.
The fabric rose to popularity more than a
century later, after Levi Strauss, a native of
Germany, came to the United States in 1853.
He brought denim with him and later became
famous for using the fabric in rivet-reinforced
work pants for men. Denim remains popular
internationally to this day for both men and
women.
