himself promised: “And surely I am with you always,
to the very end of the age.” (Mt 28.20b).
Through His Son, Jesus Christ, God offers today
his stretched hand, a secure harbor which brings
peace, help and everlasting salvation. Invite this
friend to come to your life today; he doesn’t betray
neither forsake you; He longs to be with you every
moment and throughout the eternity.
Read the Bible and get to learn more about the
God’s plan for the salvation of the mankind. Feed
yourself on the Bible and be strengthened by its
wonderful promises. Say a prayer, talk to God the
way you do with a friend of you. Confess your sins
and ask Jesus to take care of your life and actions
from now on. Try to have fellowship with other
Christians in a church or in a Bible study group

2. A version of Psalm 23 for mariners was
published in the Newsletter of the Chaplain of the
Navy in Washington. The authorship is attributed to
J. Roger, a commander of the Merchant Navy who
would have written it during the Second World War.
It says:
"The Lord is my pilot; I won't fall. He leads my way
through the dark waters, guides me towards deep
channels; drives my boat. He leads me by the star of
holiness for his name’s sake. Even though I walk
through the thunderstorms and tempests of life, I will
fear no evil, for you are with me. Your love and your
care comfort me.
You prepare a harbor before me in the Land of
eternity; you anoint the waves with oil; my boat slides
smoothly. Surely the light of the sun and stars will
benefit me all the days of my life, and I will rest in the
harbor of my Lord forever."
Whether it is coastal or long haul navigation,
many are the difficulties the mariner or waterway
worker may come upon. Nowadays, the electronic
navigation with its countless devices have made
easier the life of those devoting themselves to the
navigation but nevertheless there are still risks.
The same occurs in our life: Today we are well,
healthy, enjoying financial and emotional safety,
but suddenly we can go thorough storms such as
unemployment, abandonment, depression...
In the midst of a storm, the Bible tells about
mariners who "cried out to the Lord in their trouble,
and brought them out of their distress. He stilled the
storm to a whisper, the waves of the sea were hushed.
They were glad when it grew calm, and he guided them
to their desired haven” (Ps 107.27-30).
More than two thousand years ago, when
crossing the Sea of Galilee by boat, the disciples of
Jesus, many of them fishers, found themselves in
trouble during a windstorm which threatened to
turn their small boat upside down. In the midst of
such despair, Jesus was calmly resting. When being
awaken, Jesus rebuked the winds and the sea which
became immediately calm. Then he told his disci-
ples about the need for them to have and exercise
their faith in Him.
For it is based on faith in Christ that we achieve
help and salvation for our life. Sin has caused us to
be set apart from God. However valued the good
works are or seem to be, they cannot pay the debt
of our sins, and this debt is multiplied on a daily
basis. Therefore, God proposed a solution for the
debt of the mankind through His own Son, for
Christ lived with no sins and died with no guilt,
making Himself guilt in our place, and paying our
debt once for all. Therefore, the Bible says: “Who-
ever believes… Will be saved” (Mc 16.16). Any storm
will ever be powerful enough to set us apart from
the salvation provided by the One who created
