4. Use the LinkedIn search box to find your target
Company’s page.
The Company page will list people in your network
that are currently employed at or connected to the
company. This is an efficient way to identify those
you can likely contact with questions.

8. Who can guide you through the door?
Find the people most involved in getting you the
job you want.
Look for HR and recruiting people and
professional groups that have significant
company employees as members.

10. A recruiter may initiate contact using LinkedIn. Be
wise and research the person and their firm
before responding.
If you decide to connect, they will often post their
open positions on LinkedIn as status updates.

13. Look up the names of new contacts, former
colleagues or clients of people you meet
whenever you’ve been offered an introduction.
Learn what LinkedIn groups they’re in, where
they’ve worked, what their educational
background is, etc.

15. Use LinkedIn to review the profiles of
people that currently hold or have
previously held your job of interest
and identify similarities AND
differences.
• Are there skills that you need to
develop?
• Is there a certification you should
have?
• Is there a common LinkedIn group to
join?

16. Learn about the company and person with whom
you might be speaking or reporting to directly.
Identifying upcoming initiatives, product
launches and personal commonalities will make
initial digital contact easier.

18. A good recruiter or HR person is able to provide
the names of all the people you’ll be speaking
with during an in-person interview day.
If they don’t provide it, you have to ask.
Withholding this information, and waiting for you
to ask for it can be used as a test, especially for
sales or client-facing roles.

19. Learn as much as you can about each person that
will be interviewing you.
Check out their website links posted on LinkedIn
for personal blogs or passion projects.
Don’t forget about Twitter and Google.

21. Prior to any event you attend, review the event
website and identify people of interest that may
be presenting or attending.
Look them up in LinkedIn to see what you can
learn about them and then follow or connect with
them before or during the event.
Follow them on social media.

22. Event preparation includes having some sense of
ALL the people at the event.
Look up event hosts and sponsors in advance.
Bonus tip: seek out the event hosts and sponsors
during the event and THANK them for their
efforts.
