Bethany offers programs and services in six areas:Pastoral CareOutreach ServicesBethany PinesShadow WoodsRehabilitation Services, andBethany Home
At Bethany, special care is taken to help with the physical, emotional, social and spiritual well-being of each resident. Onsite chaplains are available for residents and their families for visits, prayer, hospital calls, funerals, and connection to residents’ home congregations. Visiting clergy make weekly worship opportunities possible for multiple faiths and bible studies are offered at various times. Our beautiful chapel is used many times throughout the week.
Bethany offers an array of Outreach Services and Programs designed to help contribute to the health and happiness of those not residing on our campus. Support groups for caregivers, bathing care and working with families to create a support team to help a person function in their home through Share the Care are all helpful services. We offer both single session educational workshops and several multi-session classes that promote health, safety, wellness and planning for your future. Our staff partner with professionals locally and also assist with activities such as delivering Meals on Wheels to seniors in Waupaca County.
Bethany’s campus is home to 20 Assisted Living Apartments for those who need just a little help in their daily lives. One- and two-bedroom apartments are available, each with a private outdoor patio, handicap access and private garage. A spacious “Great Room” is available for gathering with family and special friends. Enjoyable activities and prepared meals make life just a little easier.
Nestled between the beautiful Shadow Lake and Crystal River, 40 private retirement homes for independent living are available to the community. Lovely waterfront and wooded views complement these stylish duplexes in our quiet neighborhood. Residents enjoy the benefits of carefree living including maintenance, lawn care, snow removal and even specially planned group activities from time to time. And if they find that their needs change and they need more specialized care as they age, they receive priority for admission to our other programs.
When you need a little help getting back on your feet, Bethany is here to help with a state of the art rehabilitation program. The team of Licensed Therapists develop comprehensive care plans tailed to each rehab guest to maximize their physical, social and emotional independence, safely and quickly. Our guests enjoy private rooms, complete with their own private bath, cable television, telephone, recliner and complimentary Wi-Fi.
Bethany may be most well-known for its Skilled Nursing Facility. Newly renovated private resident rooms with private baths provide a home-like feel. A full-time social worker assists both residents and their family. A secured memory care unit with an enclosed outdoor courtyard and and specially trained staff is available to assist residents who may suffer from Alzheimer’s disease or dementia. And the outstanding nursing and rehabilitation staff earned Bethany a 5-star rating by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, which was recognized by US News & World Report in 2013. It’s no wonder Bethany was voted Waupaca’s Best Nursing Home!
So after that brief review of our programs and services you may be asking, “So, what’s new?” Let’s take a look:
Bethany is the proud winner of the 2012 Chamber of Commerce Grand Facelift Award. Upon arriving at the campus, you’ll notice the landscaped grounds and new entrance canopy. But our remodel didn’t stop at the outdoors. Exceptional dining experiences offer restaurant quality food in newly remodeled dining rooms. The open kitchen and European style café with walk out patio offers delicious food choices and the option to bake and cook just like at home. Newly named “The Herb Garden”, this area features fresh herb growing inside and outside which will be used in the menu choices for extra fresh flavor. And the main dining room now boasts a large fireplace and log cabin feel with antler-styled chandeliers and backwoods charm. With an on-site chef, residents can order from a full restaurant-style menu and choose when they would like to eat. Soon this will be open to the public from 7 am to 7 pm.
What better excuse to come check out the new dining room! Each Friday Bethany is offering an All-You-Can-Eat Fish Fry from 4 to 7 pm for only $6! We just ask that you call our front desk to make a reservation sometime during the week. Come see for yourself how good the food is here.
In January Bethany welcomed Genesis Rehab Services to our campus. They provide complete rehabilitation services, including occupational and speech therapy, designed to get you back home where you want to be. So far the response from our residents has been very good and we are pleased to partner with Genesis Rehab Services.
All residents of our Shadow Woods Retirement Homes and Bethany Pines Assisted Living Apartments enjoy complementary annual memberships to the Waupaca Senior Center where they continue to learn, grow and spend time with friends. Those residents of Bethany Home who would like to attend programs at the Senior Center can have this coordinated on an individual basis, and Bethany can assist with transportation, too.
Bethany brings families and the community together. This summer we are sponsoring a local Little League Team, “The Athletics” and this provides some great intergenerational activities. This past week the boys visited with residents, sharing stories about sports and enjoying a meal together before their ballgame. Our residents will go to a game later this month and enjoy a cookout together in July.
There is more to come! We’re working on more things to keep improving the experience at Bethany and meet the needs of our community. Here’s a preview of coming attractions.
Plans are underway to begin construction of a walking trail along the beautiful part of our property that hugs the Crystal River. This summer a crew from WisCorps will help make this area accessible to walkers and those in a wheelchair. There is room to expand this to include a few fishing spots. Natural trail surface and sections of boardwalk will enable residents and the public to enjoy various ecosystems and the splendor of the seasons as they change.
Mark your calendars for Sunday, August 25th. That’s the date of our 2nd Annual Pig Roast and Old-Fashioned Picnic. This event is a wonderful opportunity to visit with neighbors and residents and support our efforts to fund the river trail walk. Visitors will be able to walk a portion of the trail and see for themselves how beautiful it is.
For over a hundred years Bethany has been serving Waupaca and the surrounding area. Although many things have changed in that time, our commitment to meeting the changing needs of the community has remained constant. Our board has been meeting to do some strategic planning and to work with professionals to carefully plan for our future. A lot of effort has gone into needs analysis, exploring a variety of options and preparing for the changing demographics of the population. You can count on Bethany to provide a range of quality services and programs so individuals can choose what is right for them as their needs evolve. And, as in the past, you can rely on our commitment to provide these with the highest level of honesty, integrity, and dedication to excellence.
