*Video-How to create an altar for the Goddess with Delamay Devi
!
Video available to members of the Shakti Business online community!
!
Creating an altar or a sacred space at home can be fun but also a
little daunting if this concept is new to you. Regardless if this is
your first time of 100th time creating an altar Delamay will be giving
you ideas and tips on how to create one, including different
coloured fabrics, flowers, images and what to put where,
depending on the Goddess. Just as we are all individuals, each
Goddess has her own way she likes to be represented and have
offerings made to her. The items on the altar can cross cultures,
history, time and space and may include any type of religious icons
or symbolism, that you resonate with. Regardless of size, shape
and location each altar holds a special potency which you can
create with your intention when placing the item on the altar, each
time you sit in front of it for meditation, reflection or practice for any
length of time throughout the day. We try and keep this space clear
of clutter and remind our love ones and family members that this
space is dedicated to the goddess, not piles of paper or empty
cups etc.!
!
When watching this video please be prepared with your altar items
which you may want to use, including any statues, photos, flowers,
candles, trinkets and anything which is special to you. Including
different coloured cloth, gemstones, incense, mala’s, jewellery and
anything else you feel will help create your sacred offering to the
goddess.!
!
Please post pictures of your altars so we can share be inspired by each other!!

were fundamentally different from men? (girls from boys?)
When was that and what was the moment of realization?!

9. Day 8
Meeting Shakti -Mira Jamadi
!
As far back as I can remember, I believed in God. I
was raised in a Christian family and started going to
church as a baby. Church every Sunday. I prayed
every night asking God to protect, me, my family,
my friends, everyone I knew, everyone they knew--
everyone, except the bad people.
!
As young as five years old, I stayed awake contemplating the universe,
unable to wrap my mind around the size of it, where it ends, and
what my place and purpose in the universe was. I sensed that I had a
direct line to God--or the only thing that I knew as spirit at the time.
!
Once in high school, I started to question the teachings of the church
and the Bible. When I finally accepted the fact that either I didn’t
agree with the teachings, or they were plain wrong, or that there had
to be another way of seeing things, I actually felt quite afraid. I knew
of no other model of spirituality. I had no idea what else was out
there. . .
8!
10. Meeting Shakti-Mira
!
. . .But this idea of a heavenly father that created everything, who can
hear me, answer my prayers at will, just didn’t seem logical. Today, it
really does crack me up that this concept even exits. Where else in nature
does a male creature create and procreate all by himself? And not only
himself, but whole worlds! Why would this singular male supreme
being create a life system then that requires males and females to create
together (for the most part)? Don’t make no sense.
!
Creating major drama in the family, I ended up refusing to go to church
at all. I also completely stopped praying.
!
When I went to university, my freshman year, even though I was a film
and television major, I took a course called Hinduism, Buddhism, and
Taoism. I had absolutely no knowledge of any of these traditions and I
have to say that after I took the course, I still had no knowledge of these
traditions. Was it a bad class or did Ijust not get it, I don’t know. I
do know that I got a B-, my lowest grade in all of my university career.
My dean even called me in asking what had happened. I remember
telling her, “Ijust didn’t get it.”
9!
!
11. Meeting Shakti-Mira
!
. . . So that was the end of that. There was no more spirituality
in my life for another good ten years.
!
In the meantime, during those ten years, I developed major
depression as well as severe and daily panic attacks. My life was
on pause as I became housebound--sometimes bedroom bound.
At that time, no doctor could figure out what was wrong with
me. Physically, everything seemed to be working fine, which made
it even worse for my mental/emotional state. I thought that I
hadjust gone crazy.
!
Finally, a doctor figured out what was going on and I got on
meds--hallelujah! After taking the meds for a couple of years,
becoming clear and stable in my head, I decided that there was no
way that I could stay on them for the rest of my life. There was
a deep personal, emotional, and spiritual crisis that I was going
through. I had to get to the bottom of it and heal it. . .
!
10!
!
12. Meeting Shakti-Mira
!
. . .Through the help of yoga and Ayurveda, I began to see the light.
But it was in taking a workshop on tantra, with all its talk about the
Goddess (I didn’t even really know what that meant at the time),
that I really started to heal.
!
I realized that all my life up until then, I had no model of a woman
that I could identify with. I didn’t recognize myself in any woman
that showed up in my life. I ended up really despising women and
girls. What I perceived as the dreams and desires of the girls and
women around me were ridiculous. The way they saw life seemed
totally lame. The way the lived their lives seemed completely
meaningless. Was I supposed to be that? If that was what a
woman is, then no thanks. Count me out of womanhood.
!
Shiva Rea was the first woman that I had ever met that inspired
recognition in me. Meeting her and practicing with her, I felt great
relief. Relief from the feelings of being crazy, from the feelings that I
had that I would never ever find my way, figure out who I am. . .
!
11!
13. Meeting Shakti-Mira
!
. . .Another woman who is significant on my path of rediscovering
myself is Ashely Turner. I felt called to take her workshop called Urban
Priestess. During that workshop, she mentioned that she had taken a
priestess training. I had a major moment of recognition.--recognizing
that this whole goddess, priestess thing was real and that there were
people out there practicing and believing it.
!
So, I enrolled in a priestess training.
!
I didn’t end up finishing the training because I had my second child. He
was born prematurely, I had a crazy emergency C-section, and my
maternal voice was yelling at me at the top of her lungs that we had
to move out of the city and into the countryside.
!
In one of our texts for my priestess training, there is a discussion about
the prehistoric goddess worshipping cultures in France. One location
that was particularly noted was the Dordogne in southwest France.
The goddess was calling me and that’s where we ended up moving when
my son was only three months old. . .
12
14. Meeting Shakti-Mira
!
. . .Living in La Dordogne, I was witness to the healing power of the
Mother. The energy in La Dordogne is very maternal, very soft.
Physically, I healed quite rapidly, although emotional healing took longer.
Surrounded by pristine nature in all directions, I took my pain to the
Mother, lied down directly on the earth, letting her absorb my pain and
accepting her nurturing support.
!
We spent two years in La Dordogne. I healed, my son caught up in his
growth at amazing speed. But, I sensed that my time there was done.
The Mother gave me what we needed and it was time to move on.
!
Living now in Aix en Provence, I experience Goddess’ energy differently.
Here, she is less Mother, but wilder, freer. This is the home of Mary
Magdalene. The cave where she retired is 30 minutes away from me.
It’s charged with her presence. . .
!
!
!
13
15. Meeting Shakti-Mira
!
. . .When I think back to my life without Shakti consciousness and
compare it to how I experience myself and world today, the difference
is dramatic. Today, I have a place in this life. Shakti guides my
sense of self and urges me to be free, wild, creative, passionate,
smart, and strong.
!
I wish for all girls and women to discover the pervasive power of
Shakti—within themselves and beyond. She is waiting for us to
remember her—and ourselves. . .
