Smart Cities Mission is an urban renewal and retrofitting program by the Government of India with the mission to develop 100 cities across the country making them citizen friendly and sustainable. The Union Ministry of Urban Development is responsible for implementing the mission in collaboration with the state governments of the respective cities. Smart Cities Mission envisions developing an area within 100 cities in the country as model areas based on an area development plan, which is expected to have a rub-off effect on other parts of the city, and nearby cities and towns. Cities will be selected based on the Smart Cities challenge, where cities will compete in a countrywide competition to obtain the benefits from this mission. Kakinada stood one among the first 100 selected smart cities and also stood 14th in the first batch of 20 cities. This PPT speaks about the areas of development in a smart city,

After the bifurcation of
states, the government of AP
has been proposing to develop
14 smart cities. PM of India,
NAMO had announced his
vision to set up 100 smart
cities. Since then a race has
been on among the cities to
land on the list that the
ministry of urban
development is compiling.

 Uses digital, information and communication
technologies to enhance the quality and
performance of urban services, to reduce costs
and the resource consumption and to engage
more effectively and actively with its citizens.
 Equipped with basic infrastructure to give a
decent quality life, a clean and sustainable
environment through the application of smart
solutions.

 Japan’s Yokohama City Council has come
forward to collaborate with AP to develop
Kakinada into a smart city.
