Table of Contents is generally refered to as TOC or Content list. Its first use was by Quintus Valarius Soranus. He used it to assist his readers to navigate lengthy work. Appearently it is a single page, however it is a list of titles of any document (memo, report, thesis, book etc.) that is linked with that whole document. So, its concept is very vast. Its importance can be explained by an activity, that is you guyz are provided with a document...(that may be even a simple memo consisting of 10 or more pages)...and are asked to find out a topic named : "Mr. Steves Bike"...You will not even make a single try to find the topic...as You are not informed about the category of the document and that there is no TOC in the document. In this presentation I have defined TOC, its importance, as well as the ways for its creation. It is not too messy nor too confusing, but simple and informative...hope so you will like it :-) Regards: Shefa Idrees (blogger : Sharing is Caring :-) )
