4. Introduction (GIST)
• Interpretation and Scope
• While some people claim that a working
mother might deprive her children of
attention,
• Many governments, including Singapore’s,
argue that the increase in the number of
working mothers contributes greatly to the
development of their respective countries.

5. Introduction (GIST)
• Topic Statement
• I disagree to a large extent with the statement
that mothers should stay at home to look after
their children instead of working outside the
home,
• As working mothers can
• Improve the standard of living for their family,
• Provide economical benefits in terms of the
country, and
• Act as a positive role model for their children.

6. PEEL 1: Improving the Standard
of Living of the Family
• Working mothers provide extra income for the family.
• Able to afford better-quality food and possessions.
• Able to provide better education for the children.
• Higher chances of financial stability.
• In Singapore and many other countries, child relief for taxes
is offered.
• Not only will the family benefit from the mother’s
monthly salary, they might be able to claim extra
benefits from the government.
• This proves that working mothers can contribute greatly to
improving the quality of life for their family.

7. PEEL 2: Economical
Benefits for the Country
• Working mothers contribute greatly to the GDP and
GNP per Capita of the country.
• More monetary resources for the development of
the country.
• The rapid development in Singapore can be credited
partly to the increase in the number of working
mothers. Women also have certain skills valued in
the workforce, especially in the education sector.
• This proves that a country can benefit greatly if
mothers earn a monthly income for the family by
working.

8. PEEL 3: Role Models for
Children
• A working mother can serve as a good role model for her
children.
• Encourages children, particularly daughters, to pursue
their own careers and to not be limited by gender or
other circumstances.
• The children learn to take on more responsibilities and
become more independent earlier on in life.
• Social psychologist Susan Newman says children can learn
about responsibility and being financially-savvy if both their
parents are working.
• This proves that working mothers play an important role in
teaching vital qualities to their children, and by working,
they inspire their children to become more successful in life.

9. Conclusion
• It is widely recognised that mothers play a significant
role in the growth and development of their children.
• Although it is key that children receive sufficient
attention from their parents, it is undeniable that the
working mothers provide benefits to many parts of
society.
• In conclusion, the world has moved away from a
‘traditional’ household of a sole male breadwinner,
and it has become preferable for women to become
part of the working society, in order to maintain the
rapid rate of development in our world.
