This is a presentation I created for my The Technology of Music Production class by Berklee Online on Coursera. I didn't know anything about musicology, sound-making devices or instruments but just started from "0" and I'm enjoying it! (presentation created using Canva, pictures are the free ones from there).
3. WHAT IS A
MICROPHONE?
Microphone is a transducer device that
converts one form of energy (sound, air
pressure) to another (digital form,
voltage variation - binary information).
There are two types of microphones;

11. POLAR
PATTERNS
Have a focus sound in
a focusedย recording
that doesn't include
much of the room.
CARDIOID
DIRECTIONAL
MICROPHONE
Cardioid microphone also has supercardioid and
hypercardiod, and thereย just kind of flavors of
directional, and maybe bring in a little bit outside
ofย that directional space.
12. MICROPHONE
PLACEMENT
How the soundย changes is going to
really tell you where you should place
the microphone.
Anaudiosignalisvoltagevariations
In a recording studio setting, these voltage variations travel
through a wire to be processed in the Analog to Digital
Converter, then the computer, and then through a
speaker.
