The laziness mechanism turns on when our subconscious mind begins to classify the work or job at hand as a useless, resource and time wasting undertaking, even if the person knowingly understands the importance and the need to perform the job. Knowing the causes of laziness will help in overcoming it because the only way to overcome laziness is to understand its nature and particularly its causes. Six (6) causes of laziness are discussed in the these few slides.

3. This article is useful to everyone as it will help to
understand the psychology of laziness, its nature and
causes.
Employers can understand when an employee is lazy and
employees too can understand when he is lazy.

4. Sometimes, some people tend to procrastinate or not
exert effort to do what they want to do or are expected to
do. The laziness mechanism turns on when our
subconscious mind begins to classify the work or job at
hand as a useless, resource and time wasting undertaking,
even if the person knowingly understands the importance
and the need to perform the job. This may be caused by
some reasons, which are discussed in the next slides.

5. 1.
FEAR OF RESPONSIBILITY AND
ACCOUNTABILITY
To carry forward an assigned task to a successful conclusion, one
needs to accept responsibility and be ready to give account of
whatever he does. Most times, many are unwilling to work because
they afraid of being held accountable for the outcome of a particular
operation and that establishes them to be lazy. Hardworking people
take responsibilities.

6. 2.
FEAR OF EXPECTATIONS
Some people intentionally establish themselves as lazy so as to
prevent others from having high expectations for them, and to make
people plan for them. Such people avoid commitments and remain
responsibility-free, though they pretend to be doing something that
occupies all their time, so as to make other people take their
responsibilities on them. Lazy people work to avoid more important
things.

7. 3.
FEAR OF RISKS AND FAILURES
Many people become despondent and lose courage when they look
at the risks involved in a job because they don't want to lose
something that is of value to them in case they fail. Every rewarding
work/job requires some sacrifices to be made before the reward
could be gotten — losing something of value in order to get
something of greater value.

8. 4.
DEPRESSION
This is the state of a mind with the inability to visualize a happy or
brighter future, usually characterized by lack of motivation and
dissatisfaction in a previous task. Depressed people are usually
unwilling to do work because of loss of hope and lack of courage.
Though depression maybe the symptom of a problem, it can make
people see you as being lazy if you become depressed often.

9. 5.
ADDICTION TO PLEASURE AND LEISURE
Those who like taking abundant time for relaxation and enjoyment
tend to be lazier; they love to be where they will derive feeling of
temporary happy satisfaction and enjoyment from activities or
things that are used or intended for entertainment rather than
business.

LIVING A DEPENDENT LIVE
Living with everyday desire for nurture and expectation from
somebody or the government can make one lose his self will and
abilities, and it makes some people lazy. Those who live dependent
lives usually don’t believe in themselves, so they are engrossed with
fear whenever they are asked to carry out a task. They want all
things to be done for them by others.

11. Laziness is the quality of being unwilling to work or make an effort
to get things done when a person really has the ability to carry out a
particular task. A lazy person is disinclined to exertion, he never
wants to use his physical or mental effort. Most lazybones,
however, do not know/agree that they are lazy while some know but
decide to live a lazy life. Laziness results into idleness; it kills
abilities and reduces productivity.
Knowing the causes of laziness will help in overcoming it because
the only way to overcome laziness is to understand its nature and
particularly its causes.
I will discuss how to overcome laziness in one of my next articles.
