Syria celebrated on 5 December in world
soil day as apart of GSP. The celebration
included a workshop with presentations
about achievements of the national team
during the year 2019, sustainable soil
management and the role of organic matter
in soil sustainability.

Soil experts in GCSAR had many
TV, radio, and journals interviews
for raising awareness of the
importance of soil in Syrian life
and economy.

GCSAR has published many
books and brochures in 2020
especially the scientific
principles of vegetables and
orchards fertilization.
7. Pillar 2:Awareness raising: Workshops and courses
A workshop on "Conservation
Agriculture and its Future
Prospects in Syria" was held in 19
December 2019 in Damascus and
it organized by the Aga Khan
Foundation and attended by
representatives of ICARDA, ACSAD,
FAO, UNDP, WFP, Directorate of
Extension, Directorate of training,
Directorate of Planning and
International Cooperation and the
Salamieh Research Center.

12. Pillar 4: Soil information and data: global soil salinity
map (GSSmap)
Syria produced -within Global Soil
Salinity map project- the Syrian soil
salinity map for the surface and
subsurface soils based on remote
sensing data , in addition to ESP,
pH, … maps.
13. Pillar 4: Soil information and data(Asian soil Atlas)
GCSAR participated in the workshop on
setting of the Asian Soils Atlas according to
WRB (World Reference Base) classification
system, under the patronage of Food and
Agriculture Organization (FAO) and the
European Commission remotely via the
Internet, during 25-26 / 6 / 2020. Syrian
participation was on soil classification
based on WRB after converting the
American classification system at the Order
level.
14. Pillar 5:Harmonization( NENALABs network launching)
• GCSAR participated in the first
meeting to launching NENALABs
network of the Near East and North
Africa region via the Internet during
9-11 / 6/2020 with attending of the
Central Laboratory in Damascus and
the Quneitrah Lab, Al-Swiadaa,
Lattakia, Homs Research

15. Pillar 5:Harmonization (harmonizing analysis methods)
• Harmonizing soil analysis in
Syrian labs by following new
procedures and GLOSOLAN
modifications on analyzing
methods.
16. Soil experts reviewed the drafts
of new harmonized methods
from GLOSOLAN and give some
suggestions to improve works
