4th Meeting of the Global Soil Laboratory Network (GLOSOLAN) Highlight of activities •Harmonization of SOPs •Formation of NASOLANs •Participation in soil spectroscopy meeting •2nd AFRILAB Meeting (English and French)
4th Meeting of the Global Soil Laboratory Network (GLOSOLAN) Harmonization of SOPs • For 2020, Afrilab is leading the harmonization of SOP on Mehlich 3 Phosphorus. The scope of this SOP was extended to include exchangeable bases and micronutrient. The final document will be ready by Nov. 30, 2020 • Several members of Afrilab participated in harmonization of other SOPs
4th Meeting of the Global Soil Laboratory Network (GLOSOLAN) Formation of NASOLANs • Individual membership is over 110 persons • Representation in 28 African countries • Most of the countries have not formally formed their NASOLAN • Some still have controversies on designation of their National coordinating laboratory. • We encourage active individuals to take initiative to mobilize laboratories in their countries • Laboratories already designated as National Reference labs are encouraged to exercise leadership

4th Meeting of the Global Soil Laboratory Network (GLOSOLAN) 2nd AFRILAB Meeting (English and French) • Training activities separately held in English and French. • Equipment installation, use and maintenance by Buchii Personnel, Switzerland is highly appreciated • Internal and external Quality control, - Establishment of National PT schemes (Ethiopian Experience) - Working group for Regional PT Scheme is being formed
4th Meeting of the Global Soil Laboratory Network (GLOSOLAN) Proposed SOPs For Harmonization in 2021 Parameters and method Regional leaders (country) CEC and exchangeable bases by Ammonium acetate - Takesure Tendayi (Zimbabwe) - Lesego Mooketsi-Selepe (Botswana) - Souleymane Chaoulani (Niger) Exchangeable acidity potassium chlorine - Joseph Uponi (Nigeria) - Rose Ndango (Cameroon) Available micronutrients (Fe Zn Cu Mn Mo) – extraction using DTPA and EDTA  DTPA: Souleymane Dambe (Mali)  EDTA: Thembinkosi Mbedzi (Zimbabwe) Quasi-total elements by digestion using aqua regia - Marie Pierre Tine (Senegal) - Egbe Williams (Nigeria) - Rose Ndango (Cameroon) - Njeru Gachini (Kenya)

  • 2. 4th Meeting of the Global Soil Laboratory Network (GLOSOLAN) Highlight of activities •Harmonization of SOPs •Formation of NASOLANs •Participation in soil spectroscopy meeting •2nd AFRILAB Meeting (English and French)
  • 3. 4th Meeting of the Global Soil Laboratory Network (GLOSOLAN) Harmonization of SOPs • For 2020, Afrilab is leading the harmonization of SOP on Mehlich 3 Phosphorus. The scope of this SOP was extended to include exchangeable bases and micronutrient. The final document will be ready by Nov. 30, 2020 • Several members of Afrilab participated in harmonization of other SOPs
  • 4. 4th Meeting of the Global Soil Laboratory Network (GLOSOLAN) Formation of NASOLANs • Individual membership is over 110 persons • Representation in 28 African countries • Most of the countries have not formally formed their NASOLAN • Some still have controversies on designation of their National coordinating laboratory. • We encourage active individuals to take initiative to mobilize laboratories in their countries • Laboratories already designated as National Reference labs are encouraged to exercise leadership

  • 7. 4th Meeting of the Global Soil Laboratory Network (GLOSOLAN) Proposed SOPs For Harmonization in 2021 Parameters and method Regional leaders (country) CEC and exchangeable bases by Ammonium acetate - Takesure Tendayi (Zimbabwe) - Lesego Mooketsi-Selepe (Botswana) - Souleymane Chaoulani (Niger) Exchangeable acidity potassium chlorine - Joseph Uponi (Nigeria) - Rose Ndango (Cameroon) Available micronutrients (Fe Zn Cu Mn Mo) – extraction using DTPA and EDTA  DTPA: Souleymane Dambe (Mali)  EDTA: Thembinkosi Mbedzi (Zimbabwe) Quasi-total elements by digestion using aqua regia - Marie Pierre Tine (Senegal) - Egbe Williams (Nigeria) - Rose Ndango (Cameroon) - Njeru Gachini (Kenya)
