2. VINEYARD RESORT
INTRODUCTION –
A Vineyard Resort is a place where plantation of grape bearing wines, grown mainly for
wine-making, but also raisins, table grapes and non-alcoholic grape juice and that is
frequented for holidays or recreation or for a particular purpose.
Some research shows that a glass of wine a day is good for the heart. Drinking wine
moderately that is having one or two glasses per day will actually do well for the health
according to the medical history. Generally wine has been recommended by the physicians to
treat iron deficiency anaemia. Designing a vineyard in such a way that it can promote
advantages and the bright side of wine, because consumption of anything in excess is toxic
but if consumed moderately can be advantageous.
Vineyard can be a place where one can not only relax, spend quality time with their beloved
ones, celebrate their happy moments and make it memorable as well, but also one can find
out the creative side inside them, as many artists look up for some peaceful, calm and
soothing places where they can think and nurture the talent in them.
India’s expanding wine industry is the midst of a vital transition. Since the early 2000’s, India
has been hyped as an important emerging market for wine. The country has optimum climate
for grape cultivation and its main wine producing states is Maharashtra and Karnataka, are
leading producers of world class high quality grapes. In Maharashtra, Nasik has beautiful
vineyards as it has absolute weather for grape orchards. Besides Nasik, Pune, Solapur, Latur
are some of the cities that are suitable too for the production. Pune being the educational
centre and one of the leading district for wine production could be favourable for a vineyard.
The quality of the wine is decided in vineyard, but making appropriate and good quality wine
out of good grapes is more of a skill. In India, remarkable success has been achieved in table
grape production and yield levels of fresh grapes are among the highest in the world. Wine
has been made in India for as many as 5000 years. The popularity of wine in India has started
growing rapidly. Along with it, India is also experiencing a boom in wine tourism, so wine
enthusiasts can enjoy exploring India’s wine region. Wine tourism is the new buzzword.
Vineyard Resort is suddenly in demand from people who want to lend a special touch to any
occasion, from proposing marriage to a product launch. Wine tasting is a new one that has
been added to vineyards which makes people more fascinate about the place.
Major grape producing regions can be determined by following map:
3. NEED –
Grapes are an agricultural product, which makes this working structure in some ways
inevitable. In our country, agriculture being the primary occupation nearly 60% of the
population lives on the basis of agriculture. In 2001, implementation of the “Maharashtra
Grape Processing Policy” stimulated a boom in state’s wine production from 712 kilolitres in
2002 to over 20 million litres on 2008-2009. Nasik is popularly known as the wine capital of
India and its neighbouring district will have their amount orchards and vineyards crushing
large amount of grapes to bottle some premium wine.
Maharashtra and Karnataka, the grape producing states of India have the most appropriate
weather conditions and thus produce 75% and 25% of the country’s wine and grapes
respectively.
4. DOSMESTIC CONSUMPTION – There has been a distinct change in the domestic
consumption of wine. A holiday destination like Goa is also a huge market for liquor and the
sales for wine have risen lately.
MAKE IN MAHARASHTRA – The Maharashtra government is eyeing Rs.5 lakh crore
industrial investments across the state in next 5 years as a part of its “Make in Maharashtra”
initiative and close to 16 industries from Germany, Belgium and other countries have already
agreed to make fresh investment in state. Moreover, such huge investment calls for several
job opportunities, better infrastructure, real, estate, and a rise in the standard of living thus
calling for a better lifestyle. The Indian wine industry has overcome a long battle as
consumption in many parts of the country. To add to it, the market is constrained an
inadequate storage options and facilities. In Maharashtra, maximum wine production is in
Pune and if a vineyard is designed in outskirts of the city, then it would be beneficial for
people there and also for the cities around Pune.
Creating an environment where one has to not explore the outside places to have fun but can
find peace within the resort itself as it can serve all the amenities that are needed to make
them feel good. Designing certain spaces that can make people to interact with each other.
The idea of interactive spaces can encourage creating healthy and playful surrounding
AIMS AND OBJECTIVES –
In 2015, the Indian Government connected with the Indian Grape Processing Board
(IGPB) that aims to finalize the harmonization of Indian wine standards with the International
Organization of Wine guidelines. Following are the aims and objectives-
To incorporate adequate units that are required to increase the overall wine product,
as it can be our one of the maximum revenue gaining mean.
To captivate participation in daily vineyard activities resulting in wine tourism.
To promote grape, wine and grape production.
To provide pleasing surrounding and recreational facilities.
To inculcate fitness and health awareness amongst guests through various field
activities and medicinal importance of wine.
To promote enormous ambience for family rejuvenation and other social gatherings.
To create a harmony involving – open spaces, enclosed spaces, forms.
SITE JUSTIFICATION
Pune, Maharashtra.
Climate – For wine production, the temperature required for it should be between 20-
30 degree Celsius. Pune has favourable weather conditions needed for the same. The
5. city has hot semi-arid climate with tropical wet and dry, average temperature ranging
between 19-33 degree Celsius.
Maximum Production – Also, though as compared to Nasik, there are less wineries
but production of it is still at a great percentage. In 2008, there was an article, in TOI
as, “ Pune hot spot for wine production” describing the demand for wine from local
as well as international market growing, Pune district is becoming the hot-spot for
wine production.
Demand – Demand for wine is increasing at a tremendous rate and so two proposals
for setting up wineries were also submitted to government i.e. from Indapur and
Ambegaon talukas. Despite of great demand for wine in Pune, there is no vineyard
resort. Hence, there, I would like to propose vineyard resort in Pune.
6. CONCLUSION –
A Vineyard resort is a place where people can engage themselves into different
activities. Through this, it enables us to foster health and wine relationship in a playful
manner. These have to cater to the busy executive and at the same time, provide relaxed
ambience to be designee and all the various design disciplines come into play.
