came to me asking for design help, everything Mr. and Mrs. Smith
explaining that the second floor mentioned in our meetings into
bathroom of their home was careful consideration to create a
outdated and too small. Mrs. Smith lavish, French-inspired, bathroom. I
mentioned a lack of closet and will create a new floor plan which
storage space for bath towels, will expand the square footage of
linens, and her extensive wardrobe the space, creating enough room
and shoe collection. Mr. Smith for a moderately sized closet and
stated a budget of $20,000; half of small seating area within it. I will
which is to be put towards also include two sections of built-
installation fees. Mrs. Smith also in shelves for extra storage. The
specified an affinity for French vanity will be the core feature of
Empire inspired furniture. The the space while the other pieces of
couple would prefer a neutral furniture, paint colours, and
colour palette with metallic accessories accentuate its French
details and a bold focal point. Empire styling.
3. Solution Statement
• Because the Smiths stated their bathroom was too small and didn’t have
enough space for storage, I chose to expand outward to give them a greater
amount of square footage. I added a wall to create a semi-enclosed closet
with a seating area, which consists of a simple chair and small side table. For
privacy purposes, the high tank toilet I selected, will also be located in a semi-
enclosed section of the room. To keep the style of the furnishings
consistent, I chose to incorporate a claw foot bathtub, which will double as a
shower, into the space. The flooring I selected is a hard body porcelain tile
which features a realistic wood grain finish. I also utilized four small area
rugs to add some extra texture and comfort to the floor. The focal point of
the entire space is a red, French Empire-inspired, vanity that features a hand-
painted oriental scene and gold accents. The countertop of the vanity is a rich
dark marble with creamy golden veins. The vanity also includes an antiqued
brass sink and faucet. The lighting fixtures I chose will accentuate the gold
accents and hand-painted scene on the face of the vanity while providing light
to the space. The seating area inside the closet will feature two panels of
wallpaper to add texture to the space. An assortment of woven baskets will
be added to the shelves for storing towels and other bathroom accessories.
