2. About Varanasi
Situated between the rivers Varuna and Assi as
they join the Ganges, Varanasi takes its name
from its location. It is also known as Kashi, the
city of light, Varanasi is the city of a thousand
temples. The main object of all devotees is the
Kashi Vishwanath Temple. According to Hindu
belief, Benaras or Varanasi as it is known, is the
cosmic centre of the Universe. The renowned
American novelist Mark Twain once
wrote "Benaras is older than history, older than
tradition, older even than legend and look twice as
old as all of them put together."
About College
D.M.P.G. College was established by a proficient
social worker Late Sri Ramashanker Jaiswal in
memory of his Late Son Mr. Dhirendra Jaiswal on
11 Dec. 2002. College is one of the most prestigious
colleges in the city imparting education to the
girls. “To educate a girl means to educate a family
and to educate a family means to educate the
society”. Educated women means educated society
and imparting education to women is our motto.
About Seminar
Unprecedented growth has been experienced in
most part of the globe during last few decades.
Unfortunately, the fruit of such growth has not
improved the life for all. While the poverty has
been reduced in some of the emerging economies
like India, China and Vietnam, half of the world's
population owns less than 1% of the wealth. More
than half of total workforce of 2.6 billion in the
developing economies is employed in the
"informal sector" with unfavourable working
conditions. Unemployment, especially of youths, is
in the range of 40 to 70%. With close to 1 billion
people suffering from malnourishment, 2.7 billion
people living without proper sanitation and clean
water, around 125 million children not going to
school and around 30 million children dying of
preventable diseases in last 10 years before
reaching the age of five; do clearly indicate that a
large part of the population have been deprived of
the opportunities in sharing the fruits of the
growth. Now a days central government have been
taken some major initiatives for inclusive growth
like Jan Dhan Yojana, Swachh Bharat Abhiyan,
Sansad Adarsh Gram Yojana etc.
Since this is a time to review, the present seminar
on "Issues and Challenges to Inclusive Growth in
the Emerging Economy of India" is utmost
relevance.
From this perspective, Department of Commerce,
D.M.P.G. College as a responsible stakeholder
seizes an opportunity to provide a common
platform for interdisciplinary scholars,
academicians, and policy makers to discuss the
critical issues on inclusive growth and sustainable
development. The following are sub-themes of the
seminar:
• Public Policy Reforms for
providing food, shelter, health and
education
• Role of Financial Institutions in
Inclusive Growth.
• Role of Policy reforms towards
rural empowerment.
• Micro Finance and inclusive
growth.
• Global Economic Challenges
